Ebay? WTF!?!

Not sure if this is true, but if it is, I liked it--UNTIL the seller told me to be careful about leafing feedback because other eBay sellers were banning buyers who gave eBay sellers NEGATIVE. and NEUTRAL feedback. :(

LMFAO, really? I dont hesitate to leave neg and thats just one more reason TO do it. You neg a douche and avoid other douches in the process? Sounds like epic win to me.

ask to call the guy and try to work it out over the phone, if he still blows you off you have at least found out who he is and can keep tabs on him...if he is really local and trading games you 2 will eventually cross paths again...

its a small world sometimes, think about it before you make a enemy in the hobby. sometimes taking the high road stings but usually it works out for the better in the long run.

Seriously. If a seller really f---s up a transaction (as in this case), he should get a neg. No exceptions. And remember - there are a LOT of sellers on EBay. If a small number is actually wasting their time looking to ban bidders who give negs, you'll probably never run into them anyway.

I've seen a lot of responses to this, but a lot of them are hardball tactics and won't really help you complete the sale. Be reasonable and approachable. Email him or call him, and ask him what he was wanting to get for it. Make him a deal. You can mutually withdraw from an auction and no one has to pay fees. That's a good selling point. Tell him that you are offering to pick it up, again, saving him cost. Explain to him that with the transaction withdrawn, you'll pay him in cash, avoiding the 15% of fees (almost $60) that ebay and paypal are going to eat up. The roles are reversed in this. YOU are the seller now. You are selling him your offer, and I think if you are reasonable and flexible and cool tempered, you'll talk this guy into the sale and maybe score a bonus for your trouble. I talk to sellers outside of ebay a lot. We are real people after all. If he ends up being a dick, then neg the transaction and be done with it, and don't agree to withdraw from the auction (forcing him to pay the fees).

Same BS happened to me, and to my knowledge Ebay has done nothing to change this...

The problem with giving him Neg feedback, is he can do it right back too you. This happened to me years ago. I bought a board in the same state and it took almost a month to get. Everything worked so I gave him Neutral feedback. He responded by giving me negative feedback, crushing my perfect score. I was angry.

Unless ebay has done something to counter this now.

An Ebay auction is a binding contract. I know if I were the seller and the buyer backed out I would be pissed, and I hold the seller to the same standard.

You don't have to threaten him, just tell him what the repercussions of not following through with the deal are. e.g. final value fee, negative feedback, Ebay fraud department, etc.

A lot of the time that's enough to scare someone straight.

Heads up: CASH , CHECK, CASHIERS CHECK, and MONEY ORDER transactions have less Buyer Protections than CREDIT transactions.

Yeah, I totally agree with you guys.

It's the banning that's got me.

I hate it when my bid gets canceled, and my eBay ID get banned from for a sellers auction site, and I have to wait another few months for a game that I want to get to back on the market again. Makes me feel like the :eek:Bay is jerking me around.

W.T.H., all I did was follow the rules.

 / :(

EBay doesn't do shit to help you in this situation. I won 5 vectrex carts on ebay, no reserve and the guy told me that they were no longer for sale. I contacted ebay and they reminded him of the policy but did nothing. The guy still sells on ebay and I got hit with 5 unpaid item claims by the automated system. Ebay says I have to contact the seller to have him remove them. You believe that?

You can try to scare the guy but don't expect any help from ebay.

Had that same automated bullshit happen to me. Told me if I didnt respond by this date they would not allow me to buy. They wanted me to contact the buyer and get him to close the item out on his end. It was local and I paid cash and picked it up 2 days after I won the item. Thank god he was a really cool guy, but isnt that something they should be doing? If I say I paid for it shouldnt they contact the seller and verify?

I think that is just one of their many subtle ways of forcing everyone into their PayPal system.

Here is the banter back and forth today with this "guy"

Me: Hi! I'm thrilled I won your Pacman machine! How would you like payment? Paypal? Check? Cash? I'm fine with anything. Also I'd like to arrange a time to pick it up!

68bearcat: Sorry but the bid did not reach my reserve I have decided to try again at a later date or just keep it.- 68bearcat

Me: We have a legally binding ebay agreement?? I bought it for $400??? The reserve was "$400" which is what you set?? I'm confused?! Call me.... (MY #)

68bearcat: I received a bid of $800 prior to closing, before accepting your bid.- 68bearcat

Me: Huh? I clearly won the item for $400??? If you wanted $800 for it, you should have set the reserve for $800? I'm not sure you understand how Ebay works. Once an item sells, there is a legally binding contract between the seller and buyer. You should probably re read the terms and conditions. I really don't want to contact ebay leagal over this. You put the item on ebay for $400, I bid, I won, now your telling me you sold the item from under me? please make things right here.

68bearcat: This was my first time using ebay and it may be my last. However, the fact remains I do not own the machine it was sold during the ebay sale.

Me:Yes you are correct, it did sell during the ebay sale, TO ME, for $400! I have ALL the documentation to PROVE THIS! You can't just decide the item "did not meet YOUR reserve", and to decide to try again later, then just outright sell the game that I LEAGALLY entered into a contract with you to buy. SORRY EBAY DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY! I am giving you one last shot here to make things right with me. Else I will be contacting Ebay and will follow this to the end with all leagal rights available to me.....

Tell him that you decided that it sold for $200. To you.
You have NO IDEA the things I'd LIKE to tell this JACKOFF...... :)
I MEAN WTF!?!?
I mean basically what I gather, this guy put this thing on ebay thinking he was going to get $800 to $1000 bucks for it. No one bid but me, I won it, it sold for a lot less than he was hoping. And now he doesn't want to sell it for $400. WELL TOUGH SHIT! And he's got the balls to lie to me and say it sold for $800. Like anyone is going to give this shithead $800 for a pacman cocktail in need of restoration, and monitor work.....
How stupid does he think I am!? What a retard.......

I'm dealing with a similar situation.

I won a Golden Tee 2K for $27, and the seller isn't giving me a time or date to pick it up.

I just researched it a bit and it looks like you can file a "non performing seller" alert, its like a "non paying bidder" and it goes against him. I think there are grounds to sue at least for something but that's a whole mess to deal with. I'd file the NPS, slap him with neg feedback and go with 1 star on everything just to knock him down a bit. I'd send the payment via PayPal just to have him refund it too just to get them involved. It just depends on how far you want to take this, its obvious you aren't going to get the game now so just go as medieval on his ass as you can.

LOL i would contact ebay with those emails, this guy is a fucking tool
Oh I will....
The thing is, if the guy would have just said, "Hey I'm new to Ebay, I didn't know how to set up a reserve, I was hoping to get a minimum of $XXXX for it, I realize you won it, but can we please cancel this transaction? I am so sorry..."
I'd probably do the honorable thing, and let the guy walk. But to bullshit me!?!? He must think I'm as stupid as him....This really pisses me off!! God I hate STUPIDITY!!

Oh, you and me both, brother. I've been selling some stuff lately (items I'd had sitting for a while, now that I'm out of work, it seemed like a good idea to get off my ass and sell them!). I've had more <bleep>ing <bleep> from these buyers (and attempted buyers) than I've had in years. I had one item set as local pickup only (gumball machine - I didn't want to fool with packing it up) and I had 2 bidders just blatantly assume I'd be happy to ship it to them!

If they'd asked nicely or something, who knows? But both of them (one before he bid, the other after he won!) just assumed I'd be happy to ship this thing in spite of my having indicated no such thing on the auction.

The stupid entitled attitude (that the world owes them whatever they want) that some people have is REALLY shocking some days.

I mean its like he's trying to pull the Jedi Mind trick on me.....
This isn't the Pacman you bought......
