Why is it so hard to get a tracking number out of an ebay seller? Wouldn't be in their best interest to give those to the buyers. There gonna email you anyway to let you know that your package is on it's way, just include the tracking with the email. Also doesn't anyone read the notes in the request an invoice. I've put notes in there and have not gotten any responce from it. Just venting a little...

I understand the tracking thing but I manually ship and basically drop off the stuff at the post office on the way to work...I usually only dig out tracking if there is a problem but it's hard to find time to manually input all those on my end since I have a very busy schedule with work and a newborn...I ship quick, but I admit myself I don't input tracking very often...

I only recently started adding tracking numbers. And no I don't read the notes much. And yeah, I take everything up to the post office and manually ship things too. I don't print labels etc.

Also and when I buy stuff over the internet, I rarely ever need it in a hurry. Priority shipping is a waste for me, and I never have ever requested that's how things be shipped to me- I'd rather save a buck or two. I have never had anything I've bought lost in the mail. And when I do get tracking numbers it's out of the ordinary if I actually look at them. I figure a week when I buy something, give or take a few days.

I can remember one buyer who was especially irritating. She waited several days to pay me- I had to request multiple times she do so. Then I told her- "I'll ship it out tomorrow." Then the day after I shipped it I marked it shipped- not realizing they sent an automated email, I was just doing some housekeeping in my ebay. Got an email asking what the problem was, I said "oops, I did ship it yesterday- I just marked it shipped today here." Not believing me, she requested the tracking number. I felt like telling her to go fuck herself. But I sent her the number. She waited for 3 weeks to leave me feedback too- after she got the item. So it was then I decided to start giving out tracking numbers to save irritation from people like her. Up until that time, most people were perfectly fine with an email stating "I shipped today with parcel post. Leave me feedback when you get the package." I guess some people NEED that tracking number. I personally don't get it.

I do all my shipping labels via paypal now, especially when I'm selling on eBay because it will auto post the tracking number to the buyers ebay page. Also you save on delivery confirmation and shipping cost.

Yes but you end up spending more on your ink cartridges/tape and I have international packages that have to be manually presented to postal workers...

I know you can use "sticker" paper to stick those on, but it ended up being more expensive in the long run for as much as I ship (yes, black ink only) and more work than just writing an address.

Warning !!

ebay sellers better wise up and post tracking numbers on everything they sell, I do.

Say, that you were a buyer and you were somewhat less than honest, you get your package of circuit boards but the seller was lazy and never answered your emails pleading with him to send you a tracking number.

Now, in your anger, even though the boards all test just fine, you decide to complain to Ebay after a couple weeks that you never got your stuff.

Because the seller neglected to post tracking info, Ebay will believe your story and refund your money and the seller gets burned.

So, sellers beware, always spend a little more for tracking and always post the info, its your only recourse for dishonest buyers...

I have read stories about douchebags bragging online how they take advantage of this loophole to get free stuff, HOPING that the seller wont post tracking info so they can get their shit for free..

I also do this. It works about 99% of the time without any glitches.

I factor that in by adding $1 to the shipping (there is a field on the ebay sellers page to do this).

I prefer to have the sellers send me the delivery confirmation number so I can track the package. If I know a package is going to be delivered, I will very often make arrangements to work from home that day or will go home at lunch if I see that a package has been delivered. The delivery guys do not always put a package where it is out of sight of the road and in fact I have had several leave it right on the edge of my porch in plain sight of the road.

For a TV set or something common, I don't care as much if it gets taken, because I can get it replaced. But if a really hard to find PCB or a part that can't be replaced gets swiped, that is something I try to avoid.

Today, it is not about whether something is right or wrong, it is all about whether you will get caught. So I prefer to remove temptation by getting to my packages first.

Couldn't agree more, and am surprised sellers still don't do this. eBay's Buyer Protection gives buyers ability to get a refund if you do not provide tracking, even if your listing states no refunds and as-is. The days of trusting buyers over the internet are long over.

BTW: I think eBay provides free domestic tracking (so no cost) if you use their shipping label.

I don't know why people don't use the "Print a Label" option after making an eBay sale. Not only do you get a discount on the shipping cost and free delivery confirmation, but tracking information is emailed to the customer and detailed in your sold list on eBay.

You also get the eBay Seller Protection, for what its worth.

As long as you "have" tracking info, you don't need to post it immediately, it doesn't work that way. I never post and have had claims such as this but I post tracking numbers as soon as I get a claim for something such as this.

No need to "wise up" as they only require it when necessary or if you are one of those sellers with the 21 day hold on funds.

Read what I wrote 2-3 messages above. You can't do that with everything. I ship a LOT of international packages.

Can't "add" shipping costs to most of what I sell. Console video games are fixed at $4 maximum shipping rate and $3 on DVDs.
