eBay now charges final value fee for shipping costs

This actually looks like a good thing from my perspective. My company lists with free shipping, so we just got a nice final value fee discount. Also depending on what you are selling you might save money on fees even with being charged for shipping since the rates are lower. Fixed priced video games dropped from 15% to 11%. This is all good to me.

You're exactly right, any corporation is going to be like that and ultimately they don't care if the company folds eventually ,as long as the stock increases in value until they bail out. it's the nature of the beast.

If it's a family owned or whatever company, they'd be happy if they made the same amount each year, but ebay wants to make more each year.

Which is also probably how they got to the whole 'buy Skype' thing from a few years back - they were having trouble finding ways to grow revenue and thought they'd buy another business to boost themselves. Stupid plan (for ebay), of course, but you can see where the constant need for higher stock prices would drive it.

ebay raise rates

omg .. so on a typical arcade control panel that sells for $10 and you charge $22 to ship, your fees are going up OVER 200% as you will now be paying 2.88 compared to .90c the way it is today for final value fee, !

This will not lower shipping costs for the buyers, in fact it will raise them over 10%, after april 19th in my ads this is what im gunna say for an eg. of control panel
SHIPPING, $22 plus add $3 for ebay now charging me commision for ship amount (if youd like to complain about this please call ebay at 866 442 3229.)

TOTAL SHIPPING $25

No, it won't lower the overall shipping price, but what it will do is to stomp on the d-bags who like to put up $10 items that weigh all of 2 lbs and charge $75 shipping. Ebay already had a way to report them (only recently instituted, I might add), but they've now got themselves a new revenue stream, along with really putting the hurt on those guys.

I'm personally going to be raising my shipping accordingly, which means that I won't even put cheaper stuff up at all anymore.

Ebay sucks. I stopped selling on ebay years ago. I mainly use to sell video games that I would pick up cheap at pawn shops, flea markets, etc., now everyone and their grandmother know about checking ebay to find the going price of things. It sucks. I haven't sold on ebay in like 6 or 7 years. I have no use for ebay.

Do you think more people will start using Gamegavel.com to sell their videogames now?

really the ones who are hurt are the buyers since everything will now cost more. and the no insert fees on any auction price..expect to see some high priced arcades sitting collecting dust like they do on CL

Well, guess things I list on there from now on are going to be free shipping, but the item's cost will reflect the price increase....

Thanx a lot ebay!

I think gamegavel is a great idea, just not that strong of marketing. Dont get me wrong, SoCalMike has busted his ass to grow this site, he's just missing something. I dont know what it is. They guy has given away the services for free to us but yet a majority of us passed on it including me.

I had an idea on marketing his site and sent him an email but i never heard back from him.

At some point if ebay keeps alienating their customers, someone will finally create a viable rival site to swoop up all those pissed off ebay customers. At least that's what I'm hoping anyway.

His problem is that EBay is SUCH a big player that trying to siphon off part of their market is just very difficult. His strategy of a narrow market niche is helping him a lot, I think, but there's really only so much he can do with minimum budget.

I find it interesting that EBay has taken the steps they have - I suspect that GameGavel did take at least a little of their traffic, and that they did notice.

I think SoCalMike should emphasize the recent ebay fee increase on his site so people can see how ebay is becoming more "seller unfriendly".

For me, gamegavel.com is kinda like what you just described.

Maybe I'll try to contact Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook founder) and see if he can do anything to take ebay's share of the online auction sites.

The problem with Gamegavel is there is simply not much of audience.

It's simply a case of not being worth my time to list things there, as I will probably have more luck selling on local classifieds, with no fees and less work.

I have sold ONE thing there, my 3DO system and it was bought at my asking price...which was intentionally low to move it, lower than you'd find anywhere else.

I appreciate his effort and the fee structure is fine, but with a very narrow scope audience I just don't even feel compelled to list anything there.

Yep, this is the same problem that every attempt to pick up in the auction marketplace has - getting enough visitors to make it worth the effort for the sellers. I think GG has done well, but most of the stuff I've ever listed hasn't sold. I keep putting things up, but I just can't do much in sales. I'm curious - is there anything that would make you look at GG, even as a buyer? It doesn't cost me anything to put stuff up, so I still do, but with little hope of selling.

I personally want to see some way to save searches (even if it's just a specially formed URL), so that I can look for certain items regularly.
