I don't have a direct link to it, but I've been following an item on Ebay and it just disappeared several days before the closing date. It was a punchout board. There was more than one bid on it, so I assumed it was locked. The last bid that I recall was $39.00. There is no record of it in the completed listings. Does this happen often?

Yes it happens often.

The seller decided to sell it outside of ebay( or keep it I guess)
In any event, he can avoid ebay fees and such this way.

ebay can also remove an item if there was a policy violation or if someone reported it or if they thought something was a scam. When they remove it, it just disapears. If the seller ended it anded canceled the bids or says item is no longer available, then it will usually show up as ended with 0 bids until you look at the bid history. If you have the item number and search it and it is gone, my guess is ebay removed it.

Nothing amiss here

(NOT MY AUCTION :)

However, a seller can cancel an auction even if there are bids on it. I believe the cutoff is 24 hours.

??? - looks like the current bid is still $39 as of now.

This is strange. When I type in "punch" or "punch out" in the search, it does not appear. Under Collectibles, Arcade, Jukes Boxes, Pinball, Arcade, Parts I get 8 hits and it is not among them. For me, the only way to get to that auction is to click on the link you provided. I get the same results from home and work.

Very strange. I go to the category, search for Punch, and I also don't that that one. I tried a global search as well (I searched for part of the title), still no hit. Something's wrong with search on Ebay right now - I definitely should have gotten it when I searched for part of the title!

I've noticed more eBay weirdness lately too, for example, this item comes up in the search engine and has been for months, but clicking on the link shows it's been removed:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Lost-Space-B-9-...tem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item53dcc38d56

It's the signed robot blueprint about 2/3rd's of the way down the page on this search:

http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_trkpar...kw=b9 robot&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14.l1581&_pgn=2

You're right. I can find it, in the search, but it's been removed.

At first, I thought maybe some filtering issue was the culprit. It appears there are several problems with Ebay right now.

Thanks for trying my search. I thought I was going crazy.

That is a strange one. The seller has 3 feedbacks, but a zero rating. All three feedbacks were from sellers (he was obviously the buyer) that are not registered anymore. The last purchase was from Feb '07.

Warning Will Robinson! Scanners detect something is not right here!

Just my $0.02.

BTW: I am not interested in the PO board, I just find the situation with the seller....curious.

I did the same thing...and see exactly what you're seeing, that auction appears to be missing from searc results. I pulled the link to it out of my watch list. It looks to still be active.

Not good if you're the seller...no one can find your auction.
