How long should I give a buyer to pay for an item before I get concerned? I sold an item and too me it sold for 100.00 less then it should have, so I don't mind if the transaction dosen't take place however I'm willing to do the transaction because it was an auction you get what you get. But the buyer has not paid nor e-mailed me, auction ended mid day July 3rd. I'm in a hurry to get paid so I can order some pinball parts, I always pay right after the auction or in a rare stance ask the seller if I can pay in a day or two if I'm waiting to get paid or something.

Give him 7-10. Given that it's a US holiday, I'd make it 10.

thanks for that

That is what I was looking for I buy alot of stuff on ebay but rarely sell because it hurts so bad the fee's and the work to make an ad. That is what I wanted to know.
Ebay policy is here: http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/unpaid-items.html

You can file an unpaid item case no earlier than 4 days and no later than 32 days from the end of the auction. The earliest you can file a complaint is midday July 7.

Wow really

Does that apply here too because I keep getting people here that say they will by me stuff ask for the paypal address and nothing happens. I don't get it, if you go to a real auction payment is right then and they give you less then 2-3 days to get the thing out of there. I think this is odd it is not like the guy buys ton of stuff and has to get caught up.
I wait 10 days.
2-3 days is unrealistic.

Feedback would tell everything. If the guy has pretty decent feedback (a few dozen good transactions) give him 10 days or so. If he doesn't have any feedback or just a few, he's probably not going to pay.

I sell a lot of things on ebay, and almost always, if they have more than 20 feedback or so, they pay, hardly ever get a deadbeat bidder that doesn't have less than 5 feedback.

I agree with you, I pay for things a.s.a.p., but a lot of people are just more laid back about it. For instance in the business community it's pretty common practice for bills to be paid 60 days after they're received. I think that's borderline deadbeat behavior but yet almost every major company does crap like that. So I think a lot of people are getting that mindset.

On KLOV sales, I wait 24 hours before I repost a FS item if I've given my PP address and are waiting on payment unless the buyer says to please wait a few days for payment.

why is ebay different

Why do you give e-bay buyers 10 days and 24 hrs for klov why is it different? I'm not arguing or saying your wrong just curious why the world works the way it does, Do you guys get a lot of people on here saying they want to buy something and then don't? I think this is craigslist sometimes with these people saying they want to buy something or the pmed me and they never did?

I've never understood why an item might be "Pending" when some other member has cash money in hand, you either have the money or you don't.

As for eBay 3-7 days is fair, normally i put immediate payment required if i want my money like J.G. Wentworth.

Klov buyers will indeed string you along sometimes. I have had people send a message indicating interest in the item, but put their replies to my messages a week apart each and make no move to actually seal the deal.

On ebay the auction lasts several days (and in fact the winning bid may have been placed days before auction end). It's entirely reasonable that the bidder may not be near their e-mail right away at end of auction.

Here on KLOV, it's a person to person transaction. There's no authority, just general politeness. If you bother to PM someone that you want something, then it's kind of implied that you are there to pay for it reasonably quickly, or that you'd have said something when you PM'd. No one expects instant responses, but within a day is generally appreciated.

It's the difference between the more rules-oriented, corporate and impersonal nature of Ebay, vs the one-to-one, you're justbtalking to another collector nature of KLOV.

I have had many, many KLOV "buyers" who claim they want an item and then disappear. It gets very frustrating and I, too, have decided that KLOV members get a very short window to pay or the item goes back on the market.

The last time I listed rejuvenator adaptors seven of the first ten responders failed to follow through. None were arguing price with me or trying to trade anything. They all said they'd take one and to give them payment info but 70% disappeared after we agreed to the deal. None of the disappearing members were long time members. I really think they are just trying to hold a place in line just in case they decide they really want the item. I see people do this all of the time on Craigslist and it seems to be creeping into KLOV...
