Ebay auction listed at local pickup, buyer is sending a truck.

Share the Ebay link?

What rating/feedback does the Cali buyer have? Any neg comments?
If you had any correspondence with the buyer, did they seem legit/logical/aware/"educated"? (Are they even on KLOV; which I guess they are not)

Good luck ... hope all goes well.

I've sold on eBay for over 17 years now, millions of dollars in sales, eBay does not have your back, if anyone will it will be PayPal depending on who you get handling a claim, if you have a chargeback claim

the best thing you can do is fully document the pickup with video/photos and get a signed received receipt from the trucking company that is hired to collect it

it shouldn't be an issue unless the buyer is a douche.. .

That is unlikely to actually work and you'll be subject to Paypal screwups resulting in an overdraft situation. Because of 2 Paypal caused overdrafts I no longer have any bank account linked to Paypal. I pay them the $1.80 fee to get a check (yes, this does also impose limitations on receiving payments above a certain amount).

Once you give Paypal "authority" to interact with your bank account, you're subject to your banks policies on overdrafts and they'll generally pay pretty much anything. My credit union has a GLOBAL setting whereby they will refuse, but they are still charging you the NSF fee. Want overdraft protection for your standard checking account, just not for the "lame duck", not possible.

Well, seeing as how I am not retarded and can math, its worked for me for over 16 years.

In this case this is the part of eBay's policy that would worry me.

If you're returning an item because it isn't as described in the listing, the seller is responsible for return shipping charges, regardless of the seller's return policy.

That automated dispute function is based on the seller's original shipping cost though. They would not be able to come after a seller for a freight charge on an item listed as pick up only.

My personal policy on games is do not ship at all. After the Galaxian incident, if they can't get it themselves, they don't get it. I recently listed a game and stated that I would not ship. A guy asked anyway and I reiterated the fact. It did not sell. I would rather not sell than ship when it comes to these things. However, if someone can pick it up in person like they are supposed to, Welcome!

take good dated pictures of it all the way around before the truck picks it up to show it left you in whatever condition it was in is my suggestion.

Yep, this is the right way. You already have his money. Paypal refunds are practically impossible to get. I think you take some pics and tell him something like "hey, I'll take some pics of your guys coming to pick it up, so you know that they showed up" or something that reminds him that you have pics and will be hard to scam.

From eBay's help (oxymoron) page: "For returning items via shipped via freight, contact the seller to agree on alternative shipping arrangements or, in the case of local pickup, a way of getting the item back to seller safely."

This leads me to believe that the seller cannot hold you responsible for accepting a return. HOWEVER, I had once instance where a machine I sold on eBay had a claim opened against it. Basically it was a pinball machine where he said one of the switches didn't work. Whether or not there was any truth to that was beyond anything I could determine, but he asked for a partial refund of $200. I counteroffered with a $30 refund to cover the cost of any parts he may need. He accepted the $30 offer and I never heard from him again.

Honestly, I think you are safe. There are plenty of shit rules with eBay, but I do trust that eBay will not hold you liable to provide anything as extravagant as return shipping.

+1. Accurate. Buyer will have to find a way to get it back if they file a SNAD.

Yup. From the beginning of this thread, likely outcome has always been smooth transaction. Above is still good advice, nothing stops you from taking precautions and letting buyer know you have your wits about you in case buyer is part of the tiny percentage. You're much more likely to get someone raising issues in hope of a partial refund vs negative feedback.

Nope, the correct advice is to pick up the phone and call the buyer. All this "take video" and spy drama nonsense can all be left out by a five minute phone call to go over the game and the pickup.

Ok, so I listed a game for sale on ebay and set a buy it now price. I had it listed as local pickup only. I am in Iowa, and a guy in California does the BIN. He pays full price via paypal. Sends me a message that he will have a trucking company come pick it up.
Now, my question is how much protection do I have on this? What if the guy gets it and files a paypal or ebay claim stating it was not as described? Do they give him the money back and expect me to arrange shipping back to iowa?

Should I refund the money and cancel the whole thing, and relist it?

I usually have the common courtesy to ask sellers first if its ok if i have someone local to you that will pick it up for me since im in another state before BIN. Many dont have a problem with that but it doesnt hurt to ask. Since that didnt happen i dont how you have any protection from any problems that may come up like what you have described.

Retarded isn't a great term to throw around. There are plenty of examples of why what you're doing doesn't work. it has for you, that's great you've clearly not encountered any of these situations. it hasn't for me or others. 'Nuff said.
