Ebay auction listed at local pickup, buyer is sending a truck.

Ok, so I listed a game for sale on ebay and set a buy it now price. I had it listed as local pickup only. I am in Iowa, and a guy in California does the BIN. He pays full price via paypal. Sends me a message that he will have a trucking company come pick it up.
Now, my question is how much protection do I have on this? What if the guy gets it and files a paypal or ebay claim stating it was not as described? Do they give him the money back and expect me to arrange shipping back to iowa?

Should I refund the money and cancel the whole thing, and relist it?

Curious as well as I sold a local pickup to a guy in OK a few months ago and hes sending someone to pick it up soon.

From what I read before I listed it is if its listed as local pickup they have to protection for item not as described or any of those bullshit reasons people file. But I do wonder if they can claim you wouldnt let them pick it up?

IDK I always tell myself Im done with ebay, but cant find many other alternatives.

The auction states local pickup only. A logical way to think about it is, it shouldn't matter if the buyer picks it up, or he sends someone else to do it. When they haul it out of my house, they have accepted it.

I have no idea if Ebay/Paypal would agree.

I would never do it. you will be out the game and cash. once there is a dispute.

NEVER!

take good dated pictures of it all the way around before the truck picks it up to show it left you in whatever condition it was in is my suggestion.

Disputes are handled differently on freight items. If the carrier is a blanket wrap service (the proper way to freight), simply note all condition issues to the person picking it up so that it is written in the report. It shouldn't be a big issue. If it worries you too much, message them ahead of cancellation or ask to talk on the phone. Reach out. There isn't enough personal contact in the online world. It goes a long way to smoothing over concerns.

Bullshirt! ;) To refund, they need to return the item. Ebay will back you up on that period. I've sold and purchased games like that. Not sure why you would be worried at all. Just don't spend the $$ until it is picked up.

Most sellers put local pickup because they don't know how, or want to deal with shipping. If the buyer does it, they really want the game.

I would go through with the hand off
Take photos just like was said above and I would film the packing, loading and door closing of the truck at your home. Youtube it and send the buyer a link. As proof it left your home working, in the correct condition and it was packed, loaded and carted away fro. You without incident. The vid can be used in the unlikely event the game arrives damaged OR will deter the buyer from pulling a fast one because you can simply send the link to paypal/ebay in the event of a dispute to solidify your case.

Great advice, you saved me from typing almost the exact same thing.

PayPal sucks, dealing with them is a nightmare. Only thing worse is a credit card charge back; as far as CC company is concerned PayPal, not you is the merchant so PayPal 'represents you', a frightening concept. I would never sell high value item on eBay, plus you're losing 14% in fees. If the game isn't worth a huge amount i'd just "self insure". In the meantime, document document document.

Heh, the video would have been my suggestion, too.

I am following this, now.... as I want to see how it all turns out.

If I was the buyer i'd file a complaint about that t-molding :)

Good vid though I think a dozen good pictures is all you really need.

The only things I add is I print out the sale invoice (in this case ebay invoice) and hold that up against item in one of the pics (have it include something about buyers name and address). Remember, the initial people viewing this evidence at PayPal (and likely the level above them) are hired specifically for their ability to not read or comprehend basic English. If you do take a vid, keep it short.

eBay generally does not accept video or photo evidence. They usually consider it "he said / she said". From our experience, Paypal will accept such evidence in some specific dispute circumstances. However, eBay would force the buyer to return the game to you and provide proof of redelivery if anything were to happen "not as described" dispute wise. The photo or video evidence would not hurt though as it can be uploaded into the dispute console on eBay and may possibly be considered, although I have not yet seen a case where it helped. In relation to that, be sure that you have a tracking showing the item going to that buyer with the company they are using so they don't try to hit you with "item not received".
(My knowledge? Over 100,000 individual feedback received as a seller)

I stand by my first statement. NEVER.

That said I am hoping it works out.

I had somebody do this to me once and my listing stated I absolutely would not ship it but the guy really really wanted it and he wouldn't drive from Ohio to Nebraska to come get the game. He PayPal and I refunded the PayPal. He mailed me cash which I know is a bad idea. But I did get my money and the trucking company came here and picked up the galaxian which they did an excellent job of. It was in the basement and they charged him an extra one hundred bucks to use an electric Dolly to get it out of there. They used their lift gate and put it on the truck blanket wrapped it and secured it very well and I took pictures of the whole thing they were super professional. They had a hell of a time backing the truck down my dead-end street but it all worked out well. The guy paid 300 bucks for the machine and more than that to get it to Ohio but that was his fault.

Hold up a news paper or whatever viral tweet is trending in the over documented of condition video and then youtube it. Take the money out and close your checking account too. I linked a lame duck checking account to my PP. I loosely fund it to make payments, etc... Don't get screwed.

That is unlikely to actually work and you'll be subject to Paypal screwups resulting in an overdraft situation. Because of 2 Paypal caused overdrafts I no longer have any bank account linked to Paypal. I pay them the $1.80 fee to get a check (yes, this does also impose limitations on receiving payments above a certain amount).

Once you give Paypal "authority" to interact with your bank account, you're subject to your banks policies on overdrafts and they'll generally pay pretty much anything. My credit union has a GLOBAL setting whereby they will refuse, but they are still charging you the NSF fee. Want overdraft protection for your standard checking account, just not for the "lame duck", not possible.
