eBay: a wretched hive of scum and villainy.

...then it was meant to be as my slightly over bid was already more than I wanted to spend.

I much prefer to lose by a bunch though.

:D

I could see saving it if there are ones that are possibly lower in price ,but when you have the only one listed on all of Ebay what other choice do they have other than just buying it now ? lol

waiting for the auction to end, and them relisting it at a lower BIN. - ebay alerts you when an item your watching doesn't sell, and is then relisted.
I've gotten a few things that way.
Plus, like right now, there's a vidiot on Ebay, with like a 295 BIN. Its been listed twice now at that price. I'm not interested in the least in buying it, but if it sells, i've got a few here that i might list at 250 or 275, just to see if i can find another sucker, seeing as they sell for about 150.

Another minute after a higher bid would mean more cool heads would prevail, though, and items wouldn't be bid way up in a matter of seconds at the end of the auction when people try to snipe. That'd mean lower sell prices overall for a lot of auctions, and both the sellers & eBay would lose out.

I doubt implementing something like this is high on eBay's "to do" list.

I think you're wrong here.
Adding an extra minute after a higher bid at the end of an auction would give all those people who were willing to spend an extra dollar or two ('don't lose it for a buck, folks') a moment to think about it and bid again.

It would ruin the 'snipe' market, but it would drive up the final price in many cases, which is what both the seller AND Ebay would like.

I believe it would raise final prices, not lower them.

I usually just put the highest amount I will pay for an item as the bid when I find it, however far it is along. If it is something I need or would really like to have, I will throw a little extra on it as seperate bids. I figure if someone sees that a person has multiple bids on an item, it may say to them "this dude really wants that," and move on.. or maybe not.

I got sniped on a Missle Command cab a while back; was a bit bent about that, but that is a powerful part of the game.

Happy Bidding! lol

Which is exactly what EBay doesn't want to do. They are a buyer's site now, not a seller's site. Their view, if you read between the lines in their public statements is that there are millions of buyers but only a couple hundred thousand sellers. So they make token concessions to the small sellers (the 5 free listings a month) and do whatever it takes to make the buyers happy.
