eBay: a wretched hive of scum and villainy.

It's not about that extra buck - its likely about several. Say an item starts @ .99. You put in your "max bid" of $25. Then someone comes along and puts a bid of $28.72. Sure you'd pony up the extra few bucks - IF you could! But because the "auction" ends at a certain time, you don't get that opportunity. If - as said many times before - you bid and another minute got added to the time, this wouldn't happen.

:banghead:

Anyone else hate it when you post an auction item as buy it now and people put it on their watch list? That chaps my ass to the highest degree. WHy watch a buy it now if there is a chance someone can buy it from under you at any time? If you want it then buy it!!!!

I do that here and there. I do it more of a bookmark. If there is a part that I need, I'll bookmark it to remind me what the part is (BIN usually insanely high). I know some have ebay monitors at a good price and have several watchers when it is BIN and BO. That example makes no sense. Either you want it or don't. What really is funny, they will watch the BIN and snipe BIN at the last minute.

People do that (watch a BIN) to see if it sells.... usually because they have a similar item to sell.

Because I might find it cheaper elsewhere, perhaps even within eBay. I've bookmarked the BIN item as a "last resort" option. ;)

I could see saving it if there are ones that are possibly lower in price ,but when you have the only one listed on all of Ebay what other choice do they have other than just buying it now ? lol

Waiting a little longer, and seeing if another one pops up.

I also check to see how long the item's been listed; if it's been up for a long time and no one's used BIN already, I might let it fall by the wayside until the seller reduces the price.

I do that on items I want to sell but aren't sure if I will list it or not. Or ones I am thinking about buying.

This plain and simply comes down to how much you're willing to pay for an item. Ask Mike96 how he feels about losing the Journey marquee and then ask him what he was willing to pay to get it. I used a snipe program which really didn't mean shit, i was just willing to pay more for it. Being a tight ass here on the forum may get you the part you need from here but it rarely works on Ebay. Tight ass does not mean entitlement!

The only reason for having a 7 day auction is to allow time for people to find it before the real auction in the last 15 seconds.

Happens to me all the time. I frequently bid the opening price. If I get outbid at least the price doesn't move much and I know that I will need to dig deeper at the last second. When the last 15 seconds comes around I'll put my real bid in. Sometimes I win and sometimes I lose.

The model that Ebay selected as the basis for their site is a Dutch auction where sealed bids are entered and then opened at a predetermined time. They modified it to allow the "envelopes" to be opened as they arrive and the highest price to be shown.

While I too would like a 10 seconds after last bid type auction as a seller. As a buyer, I want it to end as soon as my bid is received :D.

It sucks to get sniped, but that is part of the game now. It is like a gigantic game of evolution the successful strategies survive and multiply and the losing ones quit. Sniping is a winning strategy, so it will survive.

so lets say 5 people bid normally and 5 snipe at the last second. the highest bid wins, whats the problem? if you bid the maximum amount you are willing to pay, it doesnt matter how many people bid, how they bid, or if the auction ends 2 minutes or 2 years after you bid. if you have the highest bid, you win. yeah, someone might win by sniping and get the item for a dollar or more than you. however, for all you know, their max bid might be double what you were willing to pay! just because the item sold for a couple bucks more doesnt mean you wouldve won it for a few more dollars.

I watch buy it now items all the time if the price is too high.If the item is re-listed or any changes made to the listing ebay will send me an email,at that point i can look and see if i'm interested. If the email says it was sold,i delete it from my watch list.

Actually we snipers are at a disadvantage because if we bid the same amount as one of you non-snipers, you will win the auction. So now that I think about it I'm pretty mad at those of you who don't snipe! ;)
