Hi,

Curious if anybody has an easy way to disconnect wires leading to say a button or the joystick? I realize there are these funny connectors that I believe are crimped together? If they are loose you'd be able to just pull them apart. These are very tight and I'm worried if I pull too hard I'll break the connector from the wire.

Sorry if the question sounds stupid, would just like to know.

Thanks!!

Assuming the connectors look like these crimp on connectors:

Just pull on the connector to remove from the switch (don't pull on the crimped in wire or it will likely come out of the connector - as you mention). If your fingers won't work then get a needle nose plier to grip the connector. If they are that tight, you might want to loosen them a little by opening the female connector a bit with a small screwdriver. Get it too loose and it won't stay on the male spade connector, though. If you get it too loose you can use the pliers to squeeze the connector down a bit. Experiment. :)

Is that what you were asking?

+1 on the needlenoses.

you can typically loosen the quick disconnects by squeezing the connector vertically (as opposed to squeezing it flat to smash it to the terminal tighter) AND wiggling the connector backwards from the terminal to remove it.

I've gotten some of the tightest connectors off that way.

If the crimps are done correctly (and those look professionally and properly done) you'll break the wire before the wire comes out of the crimp...

NOT that I recommend pulling on the wire, just sayin' :)

Thanks for all the responses. So you can either tweak it with the crimpers and get it lose, pull really hard and forget the crimping, or just cut the damn thing off. No tools out there that would simplify this at all? Kinda silly, I mean if an arcade operator needed to get something switched out quickly (and done correctly), you'd think they would have come up with a better solution to do so.

Again thanks to all!

Just pull them off with or without pliers, doesn't get any easier than that.
