I know I sound nuts here...but this is the 2nd time I am having to strip a cabinet from that typical thick black goo paint many of these old cabinets are covered with when they're converted into other games...
And wow does it work!! I tried using regular paint stripper, coat after coat of the stuff. Smells horrible, need mask and gloves, hazmat suit...etc.
But Easy-Off took deep layers off with two applications and about an hour of setup time. Use a spackle knife with a sharp edge, and scrap paint right off. On wood, it comes clean enough for very light sanding...on formica, completely clean. Once you're done scraping, a range with hot water wipes it all away clean. All water cleanup.
I previously used this methold on the acrylics and formica based of my Gorf cabinet as well which were all painted over in black. That I used a sponge and it peeled right off. No residue, all looks clean and clear. No hazing, cracking, dry rot. Nothing. All safe for acrylics and glass.
Safer and easier than using strippers, acetone clean up, mineral oils...etc. The pile in the pan is all that is left of the paint. If you leave it too long, it just drys up, and you have to spray it again. No big deal.
Need proof? ...
