east cost snow storm has got me snowed in.......

the amusing part is the mass hysteria and panic that spreads on long island before a storm! businesses and schools started closing yesterday by 3:00! people took the day off 5 hours before the first sight of snow!!!! and i never got why people out here rush to the supermarkets before a storm! we're never stranded for more than a few hours!

Yep I know. I grew up on the Island (holbrook). BUt escaped at a young age..

well then i don't have to tell you that very few long islanders can actually drive in the snow, no matter how much warning they have!

the same storm that is hitting the east coast now dropped 10 inches in omaha......that was our first major snow fall all winter luckily.......

What I think is really funny is that a lot of the Islanders get this big huge SUVS, four wheel drive,etc.. And then they think that those commercials are true, where they see the Jeep cruising through the snow, so they *think* they actually can drive :)

The sad part is that you would think people up here would have some clue about driving in the snow, but alas they don't. Still treat all the inputs (gas/brake/steering wheel) as binary..

True...

I did call back home this morning and they got over a foot last night..of course she was at work when I called =)

You can't compare Buffalo and Boston. Buffalo gets snow in the SUMMER! It's the same around here (Albany). 6 inches of snow and the schools close. Fortunately for me, I now work at a college. It's closed 2x in the 3 years I've been there.

So true. Last big snow we got 12+ inches, I drove home (Philadelphia) from Long Island in a Jetta (front wheel drive only!). Took 8 hours but didn't get stuck once. I couldn't believe how many 4x4 SUVs were stuck along the way.

that's because you couldn't wait to get outta here!! come hell or high water, you were determined to leave!

Really, you can drive any vehicle in bad weather as long as you are aware of how it should be driven in such conditions. I had a 82 Camaro back in college and NEVER went off the road. There was one time I couldn't make it up a super steep hill, but probably couldn't in most vehicles except for a heavy 4X4.

Where I'm at we got like 2.5" of snow. Enough to make school 2 hours late, making the day a waste. I take that back, I got a really good refresher today on how well Pandora Radio knows me. If it was a day off I would have probably worked on cleaning my Revenge From Mars, or maybe watched something like Tilt: The Battle To Save Pinball.

parts of long island near the city got about 8" or so but further east on the north fork got up to 16" new york city around 10"

First I tried to walk the 10 inch puggle in the 12 inches of snow. Then I invented the breakfast crepe taco (picture below) ham, bacon, eggs, and cheese wrapped in a crepe 'tortilla' and then I played a ton of video games,

we got about 7" in northwest ohio. I live by the park, so we get the 20mph wind pretty good. I had about an 18" drift behind the cars, and between the cars, took me about 90 minutes to shovel all of it. Then i went in and cut out another quantum cabinet.
