Easiest way to use a TV monitor

RGB to TV converter. $40 ebay.

I warn you though, anything less than S-video is too poor of video quality to play. So be sure the 19" TV has s-video.

There's no easy way that doesn't involve using some kind of specially made converter board. It's probably easier to just find and/or fix an appropriate arcade monitor.

If you have a monitor and it doesn't work, you could probably fix it.
If you don't have a monitor at all, then I guess a tv would work.

That is just a quick example. I've bought them for around $40 before.

Just wondering here.

So the RGB input comes from the game board and then the composite video output goes to the TV on these boards?

Yes, exactly. Red, Green, Blue, Gound, Sync wires that were going to plug into the CGA monitor plug into this (the pins on this board are bigger, so I just soldered the wires on). Then you connect the composite output to your TV, but I would recommend using S-Video. This converter board also requires 5VDC, which you can steal from the cabinet's power supply.

It actually works quite well and is not as sharp as a VGA monitor - which is good.

I thought the convertor was the easiest way. I have a monitor I am currently working on. It has me beating my head against the wall. I took the Shinobi board out of a Joust cab, so I'll be restoring the Joust cab using that monitor. Just going to build a cab for Shinobi and call it a day. Here is my thread on one of the monitors I'm working on...http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=210817

Do these converter boards also work on EGA outputs?

I have a WG U5000(in a Crusin USA upright) that took a crap(naturally before the holidays and when people come over:mad:) So for temp sake till I can get the correct chassis rebuild parts for that monitor. Will one of these work since it's a EGA output? That way I can slap a TV or something temporarily into it..

Thanks!

On certain models, yes. But be careful what EGA monitor you have. This adapter states 15.75 as the EGA signal, while other EGA signals are 21.8 kHz.

SPECIFICATIONS:

Power:
DC5V 2A +/- 0.5v

Input Signal:
CGA
15.625 KHz 60Hz

EGA
15.750 KHz 50Hz

Output signal:
Video
CVBS 480p

S-video
Y/C 480p

PAL/NTSC switches, Definition adjust, RGB gains adjust.

Or you can use a VGA monitor (CRT highly recommended) and RGB->VGA upscaler.
