The early game buttons that originally screwed into the wood panel on an Asteroids. Can those be found anywhere? They must be different than the later ones, that had a metal nut to hold them?

Never seen buttons that were screwed into wood....new to me...maybe the threaded the wood and used the regular buttons ?

If you take one out and make a picture of it that would be more clear.

Ditto... I had an early Asteroids cab (with the owl eye coin door) and it had standard buttons, although the metal "nut" was partially covered by the wood backing on the cp. You may have to remove the wood in order to have access to the nuts on the buttons.

Edit:
Yep, just looked at your pic again... just remove the two wing nuts and the entire panel will tilt forward on the lower hinge, then you'll be able to remove the wood backing panel. You'll probably have to disconnect the P1/P2 start buttons also. Then you'll be able to remove the buttons.

Ok, did not know that. My game the nuts are missing. So I can actually pull the buttons out from the front(top) of the panel. I'll pull the wood backing out and see whats going on there. Thank you. Maybe I miss understood someone when they said the buttons screwed to the wood. Thank you. BTW: Do you have photos of your panel I can compare too?

I picked up some nuts today. There must be a washer of some sorts? Can somebody confirm that? Thank you.

Nope, no washers - just the button and the nut. Sorry, I sold my Asteroids several months ago and don't have any pics of the cp.

Ok, what I found out was that whomever pulled this board apart at one time. Put the board back upside down. Now I see how the nuts are supposed to be attached. Now I have to remove all the switches, then turn the board over and put it all together properly. Thank you, i knew it was weird from the start..

Ok, now I have a new problem when trying to use the other side of the board. The shoulder of the switch does not fit down into the board, so the button stands up from the CP 1/8 of an inch or so. Maybe the board should have a countersink on both sides?
