Dynamo HS-9 - Please Post Yours + Info

The tag is long gone on this but you can clearly see it is black laminate plywood inside & out, not just painted. I have had a several like this. You can even see a black one in the flyers above where it shows the drawer! I believe the black ones I've had have all been HS9a.

When I restore Dynamos I strip them down to the laminate and try to refinish it, if it is too far gone I color match the paint so in my restore gallery the ones with black tops are probably all factory color.

This one also has the diagonal cut PSU hole, which is way less common.

Here are blue & black side by side I was working on a few years ago. You can see I'm stripping the black off the blue & grey cab. They look identical besides the color.

I've put 27" monitors in them before but never found one that way from the factory.

Right now I think I just have HS-5 and HS-8 cabs, but I'll start documenting tags when I find them.

Yeah the original diagonal elliptical cutout was a carry-over from the HS-5. At first i thought that the newer cutout supported AT style power supplies but it seems that isn't the case.

I really like those Dynamo HS9 clones like the red one you have there. The design seems way more simplified than Dynamos design. Would love to get my hands on one. I've only ever seen them for sale on the west coast tho. Seem to be plenty on the west coast auctions and west coast offerup.

I'm trying to get as many Dynamo ID numbers as possible and log them here:

I have owned at least 20 of these. I love them and seem to find them all the time. I have 5 right now!

They are great cabs and are perfect for Street Fighters. I've restored tons of them. If you look closely these are not all the same cab ;)
Hey SillyB,

I need to have a bezel made for the dynamo HS-9 for a 25" crt, do you happen to have the dimensions for this that you'd mind sharing?

Thank you much,
Adam

Took me forever to dig one out, but here it is

Not official at all and just sharing my XP: but in NorCal BITD, whenever I ran into this cab it was a new X-Men: Children of the Atom. To the point where I just thought that was what it was designed for, similar to what I thought about Z-Backs/Hyper Fighting.

In my head it's the COTA Cab :p

So did any games ship out dedicated in this cab? @DonPanetta

The only game i know that came in this cabinet is Numan Athletics. It came with a 4 player control panel and a 4-slot coin door. I've only ever seen one in the wild and it was converted to Street Fighter but still retained the 4-player panel and 4-slot coin door.

There also seems to have been quite a few HS-9 clones coming out of California. Probably the most dominant coming from Pacific Video Games/Hanaho. I've been able to identify two other clones, all of which seem to be in circulation in California.

Up until a few months ago i was strongly of the opinion that there were no clones of the HS-9 and that most of these copy-cat companies focused more on cabs like the HS-1 and HS-5. I was wrong.

I always knew the HS-9 to be what the Nintendo Super System came in

I'm privileged to own a HS-5, albeit I need to figure out what to do with the hole in the front of it someday

I like my HS-9 but I want to put Street Fighter 2 in it and can't find anywhere with dimensions for the SF2 control panel layout for the HS1/2/9 cabs (the control panels are interchangeable). Ideally I'd buy a pre-cut control panel but if I could find the dimensions I'd fill the one I have and re-drill it.

Here is a discussion about the control panel layout:

Thanks... I did search and couldn't find it. I see you posted there. You don't happen to have the measurements for an HS-9 do you? That thread seems to go cold with a few pics (yours with some measurements) but no actual layout template with measurements of each hole. Thanks.

The Nintendo Super System prototype was in a Dynamo HS-9. I know there was a photo around with this unit at Nintendo headquarters. I believe the photo was taken during Nintendo's arcade division party following the dissolving of the division.

So I do have a spare HS2, HS8 and HS9 compatible two-player six button control panel but I have it locked up in storage so it may be a bit before I can get to it .

Here is a discussion about the control panel layout:

I have actually spotted four different variations of the two-player six button panel. The two that you linked to and one which has the buttons slightly off-center from the center hole of the joystick for each player along with another one which has enlarged holes for coin control style joysticks.

There are also a number of interesting clone panels that I have spotted over the years; some of various and dubious quality. I recently had a nice discussion with the owner at Eldorado Games and he confirmed that during better days, he stocked reproduction Dynamo style panels and supplied panels to a number of companies that made Dynamo clones.

Last but not least for this thread, another Dynamo HS-9 clone has finally been correctly identified. The PT-9 by P&T electronics. Again, @SillyB seems to have cornered the market on these. :ROFLMAO:
