I've posted about this in a few other threads, but wanted a consolidated place to post info about this cabinet.

I recently picked up a Street Fighter in this cabinet:
DSC05089.JPG

It was identified by some of the experts as a Dynamo HS-9 (Thanks Prairied1II0 and Challenger). Searching the web I found various other posts on KLOV, BYOAC, NEO-GEO and RGVAC referencing "Dynamo HS9" or "HS-9" or "HS-9A", but have been unable to find anything officially printed that references this model. My cabinet had no model number on it, or any reference to Dynamo,

There is no mention of HS-9 in any of the catalogues maintained by Dr. Zero here: http://www.drzero.org/videogames/dynamo/, and I didn't see any Dynamo flyers referencing this model on the flyer archive here: http://flyers.arcade-museum.com/?pa...r=&manu=191&source=&submit=Search+the+Archive

I've been trying to see some of the official specs on this cabinet, and was trying to determine if there was an original color scheme.

So, if you have a Dynamo HS-9, please post a pic of the cabinet, and if you have anything official that shows references Dynamo or the model number I'd love to see it.

Here's some info so far:

I believe this may have been the cabinet's original color scheme. My cabinet has these colors under the current sloppy paint job.

Thanks.

Still looking for info on this beast of a cab. I've been working with is quite a bit recently. It's extremely heavy for its size. As others have pointed out, it might be less favorable of the Dynamo cabs because of its two piece sides causing lack of stability. I did find that some of the sides were not snug. In some places, the dowels that hold it together had come loose and started to separate. I ended up drilling several holes and counter-sinking long deck screws in any places where pieces weren't firmly held together. My cabinet is rock solid now. I'll Bondo the screw holes during the restoration, so they'll be invisible:

Also, when I removed the power supply it did have a Dynamo sticker, so at least I have something official showing this cab was made by them. I'd still like to find "HS9" in print somewhere:

And, I'm now convinced that the original color scheme was the baby-blue on top, and white/light-grey on bottom (see last picture in my previous post). I've found a few pictures with cabs like this, and stripping my cab, I found the same colored vinyl several layers down. I originally wanted to restore to a factory scheme, but I hate those colors. I think I'm going to paint the whole thing this dark blue:

Personally , I like this cab when used for fighters. I think the cabinet style gets a bad rap.

Here is my contribution. She is kinda taken apart right now as I have a proper SF style CP on the way. T-molding is off as well as I have some Dark Blue molding ready to be applied. My biggest challenge is going to be the side cabinet Red areas. Looks like it's some type of plastic surface that is glued onto the surface. Not sure if I want to take this stuff off and risk ruining the wood underneath.

Should I just paint on top of it? Suggestions.

I never saw this thread originally, but I picked up one of those years ago in the light blue color. It had Ikari III in it. Damn, those cabs are effin' heavy with the 25" monitors! I sold it shortly thereafter...

LOL- that Joust cab in that pic is my restored/rebuilt MultiWilliams! I love finding old pics like this.

I have a red top (laminate I believe, like pictured above) and grey bottom cab and I have a black top (painted) and grey bottom cab. I will snap some pics if I remember.

they get a bad rap beacuse they will fall apart.. You need to put screws in it to secure the head piece to the base. they are ususally unglued and holding in by only the wooden dowels.

The 2 tone color does look nice(normally light blue and grey). A far better cab is the dynamo HS5.

Should I just paint of the Laminate you think? Taking it off could ruin the wood I think.

I want to say you can do either, but it's kind of up to you what you're comfortable with. I'd highly suggest searching the restoration board for threads about Dynamo and Koam based projects and noting what they have done.

purchased about 40ft of t-molding [dark blue]. Should that suffice? if I run out I will make sure that the top most edging gets done and some of the hidden parts underneath are skipped till I get some more.

I find that laminate surface very tough to paint. Event after 2 sandings for the prep. I applied 2 base coats of paint and then roller'd the main coat and it still doesnt look smooth. Should I sand and krylon it?

It's not just the H-9's my HS-5 falls apart as well. Bad cabinet design 'structure'. Never use dowels where/when screws are needed.

I am about to pick one of these babies up and can't wait.

true, but its not the same as the hs9's where the head part will fall off/apart. with the hs-5, the sides are still 1 piece.

Looks nice Colesdad. I really like this cabinet now.

I ended up painting mine so it can pretend its a big-blue. I'm eventually going to use this as my horizontal multi:

Anyone have a recommendation on matching the original blue paint color?

I now have two of these HS-9 cabs, one is all black and has my Street Fighter 2 World Warrior in it which looks good in all black but on the other I'm looking to make a Champion Edition which I think looks better in the factory blue and grey colors. It's black and grey now, but has been graffitied by local hoodlums and needs TLC. The little bits of factory blue that are visable here and there are too small and old to tell the factory color.

Here is my before and after. It came out pretty good.

As far as the top half, I sanded thoroughly and painted over. There were chips and dings I bondo'd over and I was surprised at how easily it went.

The bottom portion I had a tale of two sides.

The left side the laminate had begun to peel. I had no choice to remove so I heated it up with a blow dryer (heat gun preferable here) and it came off LIKE A DREAM.

The right side...not so much. The adhesive worked much better on this side. It was far more difficult to get off, but I got it off without tearing up the wood too much. What did come up with the adhesive I bondo'd and proceeded to paint.

I'm pretty happy w my finished product. Different model, I know, but same materials from the same manufacturer.
