dynamo Cabinet models? UPDATED with pics

Hey guys,

can anybody educate me on Dynamo cabinets? and what different models there are?

I'm picking one up this weekend for $80 with a working monitor and just want to know a little more about them.

*Update*
So friday night after work I drove to Keswick to pick up this Dynamo cabinet. was about an hour and half drive both ways and I didn't even know what model it was but I got lucky. It's an H-5 corner cut Cabinet with Drawer. Really good condition with a fantastic monitor. No burn, and chassis looks brand new. $80 Canadian

got it home and worked on it till 12, had to do some re-wring since it had a non working naomi system in the cabinet that the seller took out. He left the sound amp in there and I noticed the cab was only wired using 1 channel, so I fixed that and now it's using both channels off the sound amp. the monitor had a problem with the first power supply I put in it, was causing interference on the screen, so I switched it out with my new one and the screen looks mint now. This cab is cleaning up real nice.

This sounds stupid, but I would love a NIB 19" cut corner Dynamo.

I believe there is a similar one that isn't shown on the flyer. It's almost identical to the 25" model, but mine is only 19".

Thanks that flyer is great. I really like the pullout drawer feature. I think im really gonna like this cab.

The pull out drawer was THE selling point BITD. Way easier than hauling a whole machine to swap out. I never saw that many of these on location BITD - at least the operators I worked for just had a few since they had so many other whole machines that could be converted to new games.

The drawer is fine until the particle board gets wet and swells and then the slide latch won't clear so the drawer doesn't easily come out. I have one that I got with this condition. Have to make a new drawer for it - water got it bad. :)

I've been looking to pick up a 19" Dynamo cab like in the flyer. Haven't come across one locally yet though.

I've always wondered how they put a CPO on one of those panels. Anyone ever put an CPO on one of those panels?

I have one that doesn't have the cut corner control panel... Think this model is called the HS-27. This pic is from when I was still putting it back together, but you can see the control panel.

It also has a full pull out and the panel pivots open.

How wide is that model? I assume the monitor can be used in a vertical or horizontal setup as well.

They're really heavy! I have an HS-5 (25 inch monitor) and it's a bitch to move.

so thats what my former(soon to be wu's) area 51/max force is in..

the slide out drawer thing is pretty neat... cp comes with it...

you could swap between games easily with that feature...

Thanks for the link pseeds

I found my cabinet on the website. "Dynamo Big Boy" at 450 lbs. Now I know what I felt in my gut unloading it by myself, twas my Nutz. Love that drawer, I test all my jamma boards in that thing.

i have a standard 19" cut corner without the sliding drawer, and a 19" non-cut corner made for Data East for one of their dedicated games. of course, neither have model numbers on 'em. both are destined to be JAMMA multi games at some point, one vertical and the other horizontal.

i really like the cabs. easy to work on, sturdy, and roomy without being huge.

Best I can recall, it goes like this. There is a cut corner 19" called the HS-1. Its a 19" cab that can be set up hor, or vert. and many of the old capcom games came in them(Strider, 1943, UN Squadran, etc.). Later, the "Benchmark" cab with the pullout trey came out and the control panel didn't have the cut corners. Then came the HS-5. It is was 25" cut corner cab. This was the standard cab for Street Fighter 2. Due to this fact, it was readily available for conversions, and became so popular that it became the benchmark for Jamma Cabs everywhere. At the same time, dynamo had 2 other cabs. The HS-4, called the "Big Boy", has a very odd pedestal shape with a huge marquee with stainless trim. Capcom often put dedicated Q-sound fighting games in these. Can't recall what the third cab looked like. Later still came the HS-27 showcase 33" cab that was popular for a while when Arcades were scaling back the number of games but still wanted to show off the few new titles they had. These are sometimes called pedestal cabs. Their nice, but they are monsters. Personally, I really prefer the HS-5 to anything else for jamma games. For its size and the effect it has on a nice jamma board, it can't be beat. It is heavy but not nearly as heavy as similar cabs like the Midway cabs (MK, KI, etc), and the Z-cab lookalikes.

You can pretty much see the whole history at this link.

Dynamo had at least one other cab. It looked like this:

Capcom Anthologies is a 25" Dynamo cab...

Great 1000 Mile Rally is in the same cab...

Both have the slightly smaller bottom section though (almost like the cab is sitting on the base of another cab?! Both also have the slide out "drawer" feature... (it slides in on an angle and then tilts flat).

I also have a 19" Dynamo housing my Vertical MAME cab with no "drawer" feature...

If you note...the "cut corner" CP isn't exactly flush with this cab... it's supposed to have a standard type control panel, not the larger "cut corner" style... this is one of the oldest Dynamo cabs I do believe.

My HS1

This is an original 19" SF2 World Warrior.

No tray and 19" so it must be a HS1. I've seen lots of SF2's in this cab as it was pretty standard. There is a chance it may have been a conversion because of the way the holes were drilled in the corner cut cab, although you never know if they just had inventories of 3 button 2 player cabs and added the other 3 buttons for the kick harness just to complete an order to Capcom USA.
