Well finally have gotten around to starting to strip my Duramold Cab that was converted by someone into a Vigilante game.
Lucky for me the conversion didnt hack things up too bad.
When i first got the cab,I did not know what it was other then a really cool cabinet, and later to find out what it was.

Here is what it looked like when I got it:

As you can see the insides are very dirty, someone put in a switcher and cut off the original PS's wires.

Question: What would you use to clean and protect the Plastic Cab inside and out. I dont want to use anything that will damage it long term.

The first thing I did was take the CP out and strip it down. I was surprised to see it was just a flat piece of wood with a metal top. This should make redoing the CP not too bad im hoping.

Dokert was kind enough to make me a new AC/DC Wiring harness for my game along with a repro of the CP harness.
Lucky for me he also had a full set of working boards to boot.
I have picked up my 49 Way joystick off a member here and got a new Spider for the bottom, along with the different color Translucent Buttons.
Once i have the CPO ready, i will start reassembling the CP.

If its of any use to anyone i traced out my CP and measured for holes etc.
Here is a link to that image - http://www.wldfiremachines.com/Sinistar/control panel.jpg

This is my current work in progress and I will post pictures and information as i go not only here, but also on my website.

Thanks
Ken

Awesome! Will be watching this thread.

What tipped you off that it was originally a Sinistar?

Hi there thanks! It actually wasn't a Sinistar or so the info available on the net says. was probably a Blaster. Sinistar happens to be one of my #1 Grails and it was available in the Duramold Cab, but apparently it was slightly different.

So guess when it really gets down to it, its a restoration/Conversion. LOL

Sure am looking forward to finishing and playing it.

Thanks.

Sinistar is a good choice. I would use one of the JROK boards if you can't get an original. I can help you get art printed properly or you could use Rich at This Old Game. Reverse print on Glass or Plexi for the Bezel as it will look factory.

Thanks Michael! I appreciate that offer. :)

I was lucky enough to find all the boards working from Dokert. He just happened to have them when i ordered my wiring harness's. I really lucked out. :)
I was considering a multi, but think making it all original works even better.
Thanks. :)

Spent some time today and stripped the cab of everything and used some Simple Green and cleaned up the inside of the cab. I have to say im pretty happy with how it cleaned up. I was considering using some Armour All inside but not sure yet if i will.
Here are a few pictures of it stripped before cleaning:

Here is a picture of the AMAZING Wiring Harnesses that Dokert Made! :)

And a couple of pictures of it after cleaning up and the beginning of installing the new harnesses. Pleased with things so far. Hope to work some more on it tomorrow.

Looking good...Armour All will do a nice job inside and out if you want that nice shine...especially for the outside...I think Armour All works best with black anyway..

Thanks! Im really pleased with how its coming along. Im having fun documenting it also. :)
Thanks for the info on the Armour All, i wasn't sure if it was okay to use or not. I think i will grab some tomorrow and use it inside to begin with. Then the outside later once im done. I agree it seems to work best on black. Or so it seems.

This is going to be soooo coool:cool:

Thanks bro!! Im pretty excited to be putting this all together. Its one of my Fav games of all time!! The fact its in a really kewl cab makes it even better. :)
I CANT!! wait to play it now! LOL :D

LOL! I hear you! I hope to get some more work done on it this evening. I am going to look at having the metal plates for the boards made here locally, as the Duramold's plates are just that little bit different due to cab design.
Wish i had them already so the boards could start to get mounted.

Wondering if anyone who reads this and has a Sinistar Upright if they could measure the Bezel for me. I am wondering if the upright bezel will fit into it, if not i will have to look at my options for it.

Question for everyone.
Just found out the UP bezel will not fit the Duramold.
So that leaves me having to repro it.
My question is how would you go about this?
have it printed normally on Vinyl and attach to front of glass?
Reverse print it and attach it to the back of the glass?
Print it onto cardboard or vinyl and attach to cardboard and put behind?
OR??

I appreciate any assistance.
Thank You
Ken

Ken, I think your last option will be most cost effective.. Since there would be no market to run these for others..

imo best way to do it would be plexi but that marquee is curved it looks like because of the shape of the duramold (throwing in a nice lil twist :bandit: )

Looks like it will turn out awesome. Duramold Sinistar is one of my dream machines, but I'm more than happy with my UR. Many people don't remember it because it came out right before the arcades started closing, at least that's how it was in my area. IIRC, the Sinistar Duramold cabinets had only one speaker hole as opposed to two for the other games. Good luck and I can't wait to see the finished product.

Hi and thanks! I sure hope it turns out how i want!! Im pretty excited about it!
It has the two speaker holes unfortunately, which makes it a blaster i think, but well i don't like that game at all and Sinistar is one of my TOP grails so Sinistar it will become! LOL

Thanks for posting! I am going to probably work on the monitor next, and need to get to a metal shop and have the metal plates for the boards punched out.

** Update **

Well today I didn't get as much as I had hoped done on my game but i did take apart the monitor, clean it and install it in the vertical frame I got off micksimmonds here. :)
Here are a few pictures before and after.

I also have more pictures on my site including measurements of the Wooden CP, and Wooden Monitor board for the Duramold's in case someone needs to make one.

And I took some Armour All today to the inside of the cab. WOW looks amazing. Only problem was hard to take a picture due to the shinnyness. LOL
