Duramold BLASTER found DOA.....all original and intact.

Blaster flight joystick question

Can someone answer this about the joystick? What keeps the joystick from being spun or rotated clockwise or CCW? The joystick I found in this Blaster could spin freely. Your help is appreciated.

DAY 3 of refurb BLASTER......

Pulled all the boards to recap and inspect. Replaced the AA battery holder as well. Things are looking good.

"It's Alive!" Blaster Awakens this evening

Well after working on the power supply a bit the game came to life! Good looking picture but no game sounds. The sound boards both seem to output test sounds but actual game sounds are not present. Will work on that this weekend.

Awesome find and game.

I just got to play one at Freeplay Florida last month. It's such a cool looking cab and the game is great also.

Good luck with the restoration.

Well the sound problem turned out to be the Molex connector on the sound select line. Replaced that and the sound is back. Next problem is to figure out why the memory isn't being kept even with new battery holder and batteries.

FS: DURAMOLD BLASTER by Williams Electronics

Well the joystick is back together and working fine. I then turned my attention to the problem with the CMOS RAM not keeping memory after power off. I studied the circuit and found that I had no BAT voltage across the damping diode flowing to the CMOS chip. I had good voltage from the batteries but not to the diode even with a new battery holder. So with some more continuity checking and close observation I found that one of the riveted contacts that one battery rests against was missing the inner contact thus no connection. New part was defective! Who would have guessed. The game should be fully functional then tonight. The machine is now UP FOR SALE.

QUESTION FOR COLLECTORS>……..the #47 bulbs under the control panel buttons don't seem to illuminate the buttons as well as a LED would do. Would it be horrible if I modified the lamps to light up the buttons brighter ?????

I did bendie LED's in my control panel for the buttons. HUGE difference.. Plus it takes all that heat away from under there. I did the coin door lamps as well. This is something that is easily switched back so no biggie.
