Ok..so here is a dumb question..

Since 19" monitors are getting harder to find, or are expensive when found, can't a 19" television tube be used on JAMMA games?? Is there an adapter are anything to hook the TV up to the board??

Just curious since I see 19" TV's available for cheap everywhere..and since I haven't really researched this option I thought I would ask the "experts" here first...

I am sure a simple Google search would give me an answer, but I am lazy at 2am...lol

Yes, you can get an adapter (from Jrok for example) which will convert the RGB signal from the gameboard to an NTSC signal; which is a degradation, but is fully compatible with any North American TV. In order to use it as a true RGB monitor, you need to get an arcade monitor chassis, such as the semi-universal ones from 8Liners, or find a TV that has a tube which is compatible with a model-specific chassis, such as from a G07.

Thanks..

Maxim,

Thanks for the info..I did a little research and found those adapters..

I was hoping for more of a plug and play solution...something where I didn't have to purchase a seperate chassis...just drop the TV in and wire it up...something like that

From what I hear, Neo Tec, Kortek (and I think a couple others) are manufacturing 19" monitors again. I haven't bought one, but someone posted something here a while back.

The JROK encoder should work fine for what you want.
Just make sure to get the one with component video output.
It's the next best thing to pure RGB.

Acquire a 19" TV. Discharge and remove tube.
Acquire a 19" arcade monitor shelf mount frame and mount TV tube in it
Acquire a Wei-Ya chassis - mount chassis into frame.
Cut yoke wires and connect new yoke connector.
Cut degaussing connector to chassis - connect new one.
Cut video cable that comes with the new chassis and wire into Jamma harness.
You'll have a burn free tube and ~$120 into it.
Done deal.

There's no way to do that with a North American TV. With European TVs it can be done, as they normally support RGB via a SCART connector.
