Dumb Jurassic park question

With the help of thirtyfathomdave this weekend, I picked up a damn fine Jurassic park pin. The right flipper is s bit weak, but that can hold out for another day. Right now all I want to do is simply turn down the volume. It's my first Data East, and the adjustments are completely new to me. I'm prepared to look like a fool.

open up the coin door...there's a pot volume control on the right side. this was taken of my JP:

in the game adjustments (adjustment #39) there is also a percentage display of the background volume. mine is set at 100% and then i fine tune it from there with the pot control.

to get to those adjustments, the controls are inside the coin door on the left.....there are two buttons. one you push in and out...this will take you forward in the menus. the other pushes in & stays...while depressed, this button will take you backwards in the menus. to change the audits/adjustments from within the menu, use the start button.

Just read up on that repair thread, and I'm looking forward to messing with the flipper, but what do I do to the eos to short it?

Got an aligator clip? Clothespin? Use then to clip it closed. OR use a file to make the contacts work again. They both are temoprary solutions to a new EOS switch, but they will let you play and find other issues in the game. There is a mod in service bulletin #53 that modifies the Flipper board so that a bad EOS switch will not cause the flipper to be weak. This mod was done on later flipper boards from the factory.


Hey Guys, I'm no JP Master. I just have read the repair guide for Data East (here: http://www.pinrepair.com/de/index.htm ) And have read most of the tech posts on RGP related to JP and Data East. It also helps that I have restored one JP and am working on my second one now. Most of the issues with JP are well documented in the repair guide or RGP if you search for them.

Hey Pud, ever get that control room working on your JP?


no. i'm at my wits end on that one. probably gonna break down and pay someone to go over it/repair it for me.


i've replaced the diode, replaced the switch, traced the wiring...everything looks good. i'm at a loss.

Thanks! I picked up JP a week ago and I'm working on it now.

It needed a diode replaced on a target and a few of the targets needed to be adjusted and tightened. Seems like they must take a pretty good beating on this game. There were a few hacks to some of the playfield hardware but nothing terrible. The bottom rows of GI lights in the backbox are out, probably just a connection issue. It has had a lot of play on it, the "C" and "A" holes are pretty worn but it came with hole protectors that cover up the damage.

What's taking me the longest is polishing the playfield. No real damage but the clear coat is pretty rough near the slingshots and flippers. It is smoothing out and shining up slowly with Novus 2, but it is slow going.

Anyway, that's my JP story for the moment. This discussion has been informative.

No luck, guys. I used a small tight clothes pin on the eos, but the flipper is still just as weak. Would a new flipper kit take care of it? Could it be a solenoid problem?

like a wooden or plastic clothes pin? to hold the two parts together? obviously, that didn't short it out...but it should keep it firing (the problem is when the connection is no longer made after a flipper shot).

i'm not sure what that would do for the strength of the flipper though....perhaps a more knowledgeable poster can chime in on that part.

Try running a point file on the contacts and then use the clothespin. I used the file and it cleaned up the issue until I can get around to rebuilding the flippers.

The bad EOS is the most common weak flipper problem on this game. After that, a rebuild is the easiest way to replace all of the components that wear and cause the flipper to lose power. Verify that the proper coil is installed in that position as well.
