got a chance go get one or possibly several units, no monitors...plays blind. THese are dedicated "half moon" style cabs.

What does the kit cost to convert these to completes? Do these just run a board or are these board/hard drive combos?

what size monitors did these come with originally? (25 or 27?) and med res correct?

are they dedicated med res or is there a dip to switch to change to stanrard res?

ive got a resurrected neotec med res from a rush thats rigged to feek but bench tested god after repairs, i figure i can at least use that.. but if i can get ym hands on more than one of these machines id like to use a k7000 in one if i can...

mine has a k7501 in it, no idea about the neo.

I just got my gt2005.. i love it, need to cap and fly the chassis and can not waittttt

good lord sorry forgot to check this post for mis-typed words apparently he he

thanks for the reply. I assume nobody has figured out the security chip for the complete then i take it?? (paging topless z!!!) oh well 05 is cool. id kinda like to have one, my boss has actually expressed interest in one too, now i know the ins and outs..

I believe some of the dedicated GT's shipped with 25" monitors and some with 27"....

There's a joker upgrading boards for $250 somewhere, you send him your board and he sends it back. I'm not sure if he figured out the security, or if he had a bunch of NOS upgrade kits he found.

2005 is a good year, I believe the security chip is the same between 2005 and 2005 xtra which has 3 more courses, you just need a different hard drive.

cool ... grabbed it tonight, not pristine but ok. traded a flat screen tv, the first one i ever fixed, had $50 in it plus my time....

i have a 27" neotec med res monitor thats been hanging out in my garage waiting for a rainy day when i could put it to use. I guess tonight is that night.

now i gotta try to remember if these need an isolation transformer or not.

built in iso on this neotec.. game plays great, frickin betson trackball is ROUUUUUUUGh though.. i dig the graphics, much nicer than gt 98,.99, 2000 imho...

and i need to figure out how to mount this big monitor, it doesent seem to want to fit in there very well... it is apparent i have 25" mounts :(

this is a half moon golden tee cab, even has paper stapled inside fromt he factory that says "golden tee", but im thinking its prolly an older cab that was converted to 05 perhaps or mabye was ordered as an empty and put togther by an op.

Any ops out there shoehorn a 27" crt in these half moon cabs that originally took 25 inch monitors? WIdth wise it barely fits but tallness wise unless i do something different with mounts i dont see how it would fit in here...
would look badass if i could pull it off, and bieng i have nothing in this monitor, of course i am motovated to use it if possible.

i am relieved that the neotec monitor i frankensteined togther about a year ago and tested for raster only, has an EXCELLENT pic.. cant believe it.. i didnt even have to dial in the focus it was right on..

well except for a one pixel burn spot dead center, monitor mustve ran with no deflection at some point for quite awhile... ugh oh well

I put a 27" Neotec in my cab. I used "L" brackets for the upper mounts. I made a new monitor surround out of black posterboard, but I know I didn't have to cut any of the cab.

You can probably clean up the trackball rollers and have it work fine. Mine looked so bad that I thought it was a goner. I cleaned it out, polished the rollers with Brasso and it still works great.

cool, im all about the chea fix yeah mabye i can get lucky and clean her up...

not sure what im going to do for mounts yet, but if i get creative i will post pics.

ok heres what i ended up doing.

I took the original brackets out. Pounded out the old mounting studs.

I then took some 3/8" washers out of out bolt bin at work.

I took one end at a time, sitting on a big metal plate at a 90 degree angle to the plate, lined up the washers in the same orientation as the original bolt holes on the edge of the brackets, and BRAZED them on. WHy brazing? One, alot of you guys dont have access to a welder, but any of you with access to a hardware store can buy a bernz-o-matic brazing setup. SECOND: i was afraid the metal may have become magnatized if i would have mig welded it.

Doing this hack-modification gave me about an extra inch on top, extra inch on bottom, this monitor fits in there SNUG and square. Now if i wanted to go overkill, i could drill 8 new holes in the cab and install 8 more carrige bolts to the original boltholes in the mounts, but i think this will be just fine.

All thats left to do is mark the new monitor mounting holes, remove the monitor and drill the new holes and install some bolts. I may just reuse the original mounting studs and braze them on too, not sure. I will post whatever i decide.

cant wait to see finished product! I wanna play mine so bad but the focus and brightness change in like 15 minutes so by the end of an 18 round game you cant see the ball LOL

replace your flyback man, i think chad came up with a revised on that has a touch more hv...(if were talking neotec)

I cant believe how nice of a pic this thing has.

this was literally a tube and "junk" chassis i got along with a box of "junk"

in the box was also a new flyback for this monitor. A new flyback for a u5000/k7500, and a ton of caps..

so i capped it, made some ghetto metal pieces to mount the hot and side mounted pcb on, replaced the hot, put it all togther sitting on a plastic chassis holder from a wei-ya, stuffed it all on a (neotec) atari monitor frame i HAPPENED to have scavenged from some other find way back when, and lo and behold it all came togther to give me a pretty damn good looking monitor man.

my trackball bearings are shot, so are the rollers. I cleaned it up, it helped a little, but i need to rebuild it.

dumb question: turns out this has a new drive and its the xtra drive...
however i only have a handful of courses. it says "more courses available in tournament play"

soooo.... do i have to change some setting in the thing or is tournament play the same as 2 players or more?

i have a k7501. will recap and fly soon.

the tournament mode is not available you need the phone line hooked up but it shut down the fore servers years ago.. makes the 2 extra courses no longer good.

those bastards lol...

ok well its fine as is i dig it.

toplessz knows he could do complete kits, but the equip to do it would cost too much, like $3k... so hes not going to do it unless he finds a deal on the stuff he needs.

I had plannned on this bieng a flip, but i dunno, honestly i kind of like it. i may end up keeping this thing.

I'm keeping mine I think it's a damn good keeper. I definitely want the complete upgrade. I think if topless did it then it would pay for itself quickly since no one else does it and the fore series is so affordable that many have them. I'd pay like 200 for the upgrade. Instead of 400 for a complete board

doing more experimenting today... sick of this rough trackball,e is noisy and stops prematurely. In typical klov fashion, i want to fix it for nothing.. :D

ive already had it apart and polished the shafts( yeah ha ha) my issue is the bearings...

so i pulled them out. Took an empty gatorade bottle. put in about 2" of acetone in, put the bearings in,

shook shook shook for about an hour on and off..rolled them, much more free now.(and man the acetone got dirrrty!!)

i drained that krap out, dried the bearings. I put them back in the gatorade bottle, filled with about an inch of trans fluid. WHy trans fluid? its a thin light oil, and it has alot of cleaners in it too. now they are spinning like butter. I am going to shake and soak them for about another hour and then put it back togther and post my results.

haha had another brainiac moment... i own one of these:
advanced_high_volume_Stirrer_flask.jpg

except mines alot older and weaker. put the gatorade bottle on top. now my bearings are ckicking and flopping around in there, that oughta get em freed up pretty good. if this works out, i guess i finally found a purpose for this old piee of reject high school lab equipment..

Its for a Players Club card to track your stats. Its another dead feature on this era of game, but still used on the new ones.
