DUAL-VERSION bulletproofed + modded Asteroids Deluxe board, w warranty
I have a modified Asteroids Deluxe board for sale.
This board has been single-ROM-modded, which normally involves replacing the four 2716 program ROMs with a single 2764, which increases reliability and lowers power consumption. The mod is reversible (with soldering), if you wish to go back to separate ROMs for some reason in the future.
However, I have gone one step further, and actually used double-sized ROMs, which contain both the v1 and v2 versions of AD code. This mod also involves doubling up one of the vector ROMs as well, which is separate from the program ROMs, but also contains both versions of code. (The second vector ROM is actually the same between both versions, so it does not have to be modified.)
The code is switchable via a toggle switch that I have added to the board. The switch is positioned so it is accessible through the coin door, in a standard AD cab.
Most boards today tend to have the newer v2 ROMs, which Atari issued as a field modification after the game's release, as it was found that the original v1 ROMs were too difficult for most people. The v1 code makes the game much faster, far more difficult, and personally I think it's a lot more fun, especially if you're a regular AD player. For some discussion, see here:

Board has been fully gone over, with any marginal parts replaced. All sockets have been replaced for ROMs, CPU, POKEY, and score save EAROM, using new silver dual-wipe sockets. Most of the chips in the video section have been socketed, for easy replacement should they go bad in the future. Also, new, sealed cermet X and Y size adjustment pots have been installed, replacing the original stock pots, which are prone to breaking off and getting dirty.
Board has been washed, dried, and burn-in tested in my personal machine. I will also warranty this board for 3 months. All I ask is that you pay to ship it back to me, and I will repair and return ship for free.
$195 shipped.
Thanks!
Andy
