I played my DreamCast for the first time since around 2001.

I could'nt get 1 game too play. *MS Pac-man Maze Madness* I remember something about getting some games too play you flipped the console upside down?

I've tryed this and it will not play . It loads the Sega copy Right thing and then goes back too the Menu.

I remember this with my first generation PS1, but not the DC. Maybe I just never ran into that with any of mine.

Worst thing to happen to my DC's was the battery on the MB always dies after a few years and it can be a bitch to replace - not even worth trying, really.

Even if it's not all scratched up, have you tried one of those disc repair tools? Even if they look like surface scratches, those DC GD-ROM discs were very susceptible to scratches like that and the smallest one could render the game useless. I bought a used copy of Sonic Adventure 2 for dirt cheap because it was scratched to hell and back. Used one of those "Disc Doctor" things on it a couple of times and now the thing plays like new.

no i have'nt tryed any disk cleaning or anything on it.. I just remember getting the game too work before somehow.

I think the disk has had problems since new for some reason.. I guess if anything it has very light scratches on if anything .

with just a little bit of help from google you can obtain a "Backup" of the game and burn a new one for yourself.

Never tried it with a DC, but I've "fixed" a few PS2's with a little (and I mean very small) ammount of rubbing alchohol and a Q-Tip on the lense... could just be dust

Try tilting the console on it's side. This takes some of the strain off the motor that spins the disc. However most likely if the motor was the issue then no games would load. My guess would be it has something to do with the disc itself. Try some of the suggestions previously posted. If that is a no go, then get a "back up copy".

I do remember one time I had a few games that would load and a few that would not. I had to take it apart and there was a pot (blue i think) on the top of the main board I had to tweak just a bit. it had something to do with focusing the light beam.

in my experience, most dreamcast are highly reliable over the years, much more out in the wild still function properly, apposed to other systems in the same pee group, ps1 ps2 xbox, etc, which break down alot over the year or even much earlier in there original time

dream cast game disc or some what sensitive in a sense.
it isnt uncommon for say instance, you have a game that works but is scratched a little but hey it works right. say you run it through a proffessionsal disc resurfcer, not any of that store bought bull crap, im talking machines that cost thousand of dollars. and then the game comes out looking like a brand new disc.
but all of a sudden the dreamcast wont recognize it, etc. disc appear 100% fine but wont work...

the battery in a dreamcast should recharge its self if you leave the system on for a while. its the sega saturns that need a full battery replacment after they die

Could be just a bad disc. That seems to happen sometimes, the game disc looks perfect, but won't play. Or the disc itself could have a manufacturing flaw that's difficult or impossible to spot. Hold it up to the light, and see if any pinpoints of light are visible through it.

The other possibility is the first signs of failure of the optical drive.

This is good to know. I might have to try that as seeing the date/time setup every time is a bit annoying :p
