Hello, I live in the UK and to find some of the classic arcade machine can be a struggle. I was doing my normal searches and Dragons Lair comes up! But then the price change everything...

The starting bid is £1399.99 ($2181.81). Fron the description it's not the original laser disc player and has new art work. Is it worth this price?

Heres the link:

far over priced but,do remember that you see crappy jamma cabs with 60n1 boards in them for anything up to a grand.

the sellers are either stupid or they are just hopefull that some idiot will click bin.

dilussional selling.

you see them going to auction and not fetching more than £500,in fact i think they go for far less although they need work in most cases.
:)

I was thinking about £800-£900 would be a fair offer. I mean it's not completely original, but great for what it is. I will email and see what they say.

Keep in mind that if it is not the "original" laser disc player that it may have the upgrade/conversion performed which uses newer and more reliable Sony laserdisc players. That is a PLUS, and not negative, when it comes to the value of the game. Also, there was a limited edition re-issue of the laserdisc, which is highly sought after. Just having that alone would increase the value by several hundred dollars. The final factor is rarity in the UK. I understand that classic US arcade games are rather hard to come by where you live and often command a premium.

Asking a US collector what it is worth, without knowing all of these factors, will likely end up with a low estimate. If it has the upgraded laser player and is in great condition, expect to pay up to $1,500 US. If it has the re-issue laser disc, add up to $300 more US to that amount...

A Dragons Lair will go from $500 (for crappy non working condition) up to $6000 for NIB. In my 17 years of collecting mostly only laser games, this is the lowest legit price and the highest legit price I have on record.

FWIW, serial #1 sold for $10,000.

So in your experience what would you say it's worth? :)

if it was worth what its posted on ebay at then it will sell,if it dont,it wasnt worth it to anyone who saw it.

its not worth more than £600 decent working codition (but that just me) and that looks like a decen worker,so £600 not twice that!

always bear in m ind a few things, what are you going to sell it at whyen the time comes, how much you going to lose when you have to sell it cheap, like half what you payed for it at £1300.

its not anywhere near wortha grand,it aint anywhere near worth £700 never mind a grand.

only a person with no brains and lots of money or a real die hard fan who iusnt looking to the future will buy that.

mind you arcadewhorehouse could buy it and then flip it for £3000
:p

I bought my first laser game in 1984, still have it too. Been collecting lasers ever since and have seen the market ebb and flow as well.

That DL machine looks nice but is overpriced. Still, someone may pay that if they loved the game and totally must have it. Price is hugely subjective....I bought my DL in the late ninties for $150 USD...working.

It has the hi-tech card, the 1450 player, new art and sides. If you really want to get picky, the artwork was installed too low. Still, that won't matter to someone wanting to play the game. To a true collector, it will.

What price is fair?....I'd suggest a range around $850-$1200 USD. Keep in mind, economics are not in the seller's favor right now. Still, the seller may be in no rush and have too much invested to let it go any cheaper, can't blame them for not wanting to lose their shirt over it. I'd just make an offer and see how it's received.

good luck.

I messaged the guy asking for the story of the machine. And told me his friend brought it 7 years ago, then he brought it 6 months ago. He says it was originally Finnys (god of Dragons lair!). He also said he is in no rush to sell.

I made him an offer of £700 and will go from there.

And for those who don't know of Finny check his collection here.

He owns Dragons Lair #1.

the cab aint worth more than £700 even if it was owned by michael jackson.

dragons lair cabs are given away on some forums and ebay prices are real weak, like i said earlier you get 60n1 cabs with bin of £999.what its worth and what the seller puts is certainly 2 different things in this case.

dont offer to by it and watch the auction run and i bet it gos unsold.if it was worth the money it would be snapped up,it will only end early due to offers or someone offering a cab or cab+cash in swap.

you would hve to be a bit not rght i the head to pay £1300.
:)

Well, here is a run down of the ebay messages up to now. I dont think I will be getting this Dragons Lair. :)

Me: I have been looking at Finnys collection on thats amazing stuff.
In terms of price I was looking more at the £700 mark. Again I am very interested.

Seller: Finny has sold most of his collection now which is a shame. Sorry but £700 wont buy this cab, i will go to £1300 but i would rather put it next to the other one and keep it or convert it to Space Ace.
Cheers

Me: Hello, Thats a shame, well we will see how the auction goes, I may be pushed to £800. I would love to own a Dragons Lair. If it doesnt sell, just keep me in mind before you make it a space ace and just say I price. :p
Keep me informed!

Seller: Hi,
£1300 is my lowest, the last one sold on ebay for £1250 and it was a wreck needing restoration. The one before that went for £1800, that was a reproduction cab not an original so the price is fair.
All the best

Again that cab is nice, he might not get what he is asking, but £700 is a lowball offer. I would say dream on!!

I would say its worth at least £900 to £1000. Yes his ebay price is to high but if it were mine, I dont even think I would answer emails in the £700 range. Thats insulting IMO!!

Last nice one that I saw, sold on ebay for over $1400 without shipping.

I turned down $1,300 from a local person for my restored DL. I just wasn't ready to sell and I didn't need the money. It is one of those games that if you have one in good shape and sell it, it is going to cost you to get another back.

He has two! But like he said in his message he doesn't need to sell it. Just a shame. £800-£900 is a fair price for the machine. If only I knew more sellers in the UK! :)
