Hey Guys,

Trying to finish my DAPHNE cab..

I am putting everything in a DL cab that was built for me a couple of years ago.

I was wondering if you guys know of any web sites that have pics of a DL cab that has been converted to a DAPHNE (or MAME) unit? Mostly I need a pic of various ways people have added the monitor to the cab?? shelf vs. mounting it?? stuff like that..

Thanks for any help and info! I appreciate it!!

Jess

Mount the Monitor like it was originally mounted in a real cabinet-Use an arcade monitor

I'm not so sure daphne will run at std res. And if you use a computer monitor you can take advantage of the restored versions of DL, SA, and Cliffhanger, which look pretty great.

no arcade..

An arcade monitor won't work...

Plus, I run MAME on the same computer...

I have a 21" multisync monitor that looks really good with the laser games. Matter of fact, I had someone over the other day who owns a bunch of original laser games and he was surprised on how good DAPHNE ran the games and how good they looked...

Anyway...I think I will try mounting it like I regular arcade monitor and if that doesn't work I will build a shelf at an angle similar to the orignal mounted monitors...

If anyone has done that could you send me a PM with some pics?? Thanks!

My DAPHNE is in a Astron Belt cab.,I removed the 19" standard res monitor, and installed a metal bracket to hold a 19" VGA computer LCD monitor. Looks and works great with DAPHNE.

Question??

Ok..I have read a lot about the ArcadeVGA card...

Since I am going to stick with my 21" CRT Multisync Monitor, is there an ADVANTAGE to using the ArcadeVGA card??? Better picture??

I would love to hear any/all comments??

Thanks everyone! Very much appreciated!

The advantage is you can use an original monitor and not have to retrofit a newer VGA style computer monitor in there. A buddy has a couple of DL parts, but not enough guts for both so this may be the route he goes to get them running. The HD will be SSD or USB/Flash with minimalist PC hardware running. The NTSC conversion card won't be necessary either.

Yea..

Scott,

Thanks for the heads-up...

Yea..I read on the ArcadeVGA site that you could use a regular arcade monitor with the card. I won't be using an arcade monitor though..

I guess my ONLY real question is if having the card will make the games look better on my CRT computer monitor or LCD computer monitor. I don't want to spend the $100+ for the card if it really isnt going to make a visable difference...

Thanks again! Always appreciated!

The games will be running at their native resolutions. Depending on the quality of the mpeg's you use for the video, they will look very close to an original game. In my opinion, if you aren't going to shell out the money for an original dedicated laser game, at least maximize the potential of the emulator and use everything available to make the emulation as authentic as possible.

Hmmm...

Yea..I have owned original DL, DL2, SA, TQ, and a Dedicated SA...so I had all of them at one time...the reason I am moving to DAPHNE is really about space...I no longer have it...only room for my 60 in 1 cocktail and my DAPHNE cab...plus, I don't want to fork over the cash to repurchase my old laser collection...LOL..

I do get to play a bunch of my old games though...the DL2, SA, and TQ ended up and one of my best friends house...hehe

Thanks for all the suggestions and input!! Much appreciated!

I recommend running Daphne on a CRT computer monitor in your daphne cab. Why would you want to run an arcade monitor and have the old 320 x 240 when the later versions released and converted to daphne were retooled for much higher res. I've done both and the DVD versions converted to Daphne are so much nicer looking on a 640x480 or even higher res, then 320X240 any day. I guess if you really want the old 320x240 original blurry look you could go arcade monitor route but it just seems silly to me. I'm working on a similar cab and that is the route I'm going. I won't do LCD but I will do a 19" CRT pc monitor at 640X480 to at least be some what original looking but yet much clearer. Just my 2 cents worth.

I did this with a DL cab using the original monitor and an Arcade VGA Card it came out perfect. The controls score board and everything worked powered buy a cheap PC. The mounting and bezel are the hardest when you don't use the original monitors.

Spaeth had some I hacked the original to work through the serial port, the direction are online and it took a whopping 5 min to make it work. the controls were controlled by an IPAC the game booted into DL and if you held the 1-player and 2-player down at the same time it switched to SA and back and forth. The only reason I sold it was because the machine is annoying with the attract sound was constantly on when your playing another game. I wnated it once ever 1/2 hour not continuously

Old DAPHNE

You must have been using an older version of DAPHNE. The newest version you can set the attract mode for different intervals, as well as turn them off completely. Also, you can keep attract mode, but turn off the sound and voiceover...its pretty cool..the customizing is pretty extensive now..

Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions...for those who care:

Here is what I decided:

DAPHNE being run on a Pent Dual Core (because I got it cheap) with 4MB memory
1 Terrabyte hard drive
ATI Radeon Card (512mb)
21" Sony Trinitron Flat Screen Multisync CRT

Just got my I-pac in today so I will be wiring everything up and working on finishing the project over the next couple of weeks..

Will post pics when I am done...

Later,

Jess
