Dragons Lair Restoration

Cool. I've always wanted a Dragon's Lair but I've also always been of the impression that once I got it, I would play it for a week, beat it, and then it would just sit.

Having the thing for 17 years, have you played it much? Is it worth owning one, other than from a collector's standpoint?

Dragons Lair is a funny thing, if I didn't have it I would miss it like mad. I don't play it much, its in my home office so I see it every day. When I fancy a game its there. I fell in love with it as a kid so it means a lot to me to have one around.

I've owned a couple DL's (and SAs and TQs) over the years and it's a "pretty" game to have but yeah, memorize the rooms and the challenge is gone. Guests rarely play it. Hell, there was a time I could play DL & SA simultaneously like a real nerd. But the neat thing is, it's the most ported arcade game of all time, despite no copy ever being as good as the original. It's a trophy to behold, but it'll probably sit playing back those first 900 frames of laserdisc footage over and over again. Damn good narrator voice at least.

Great job, lots of detail. Thanks for the info. on the new fan, screen, etc.. Where did you find the Special Edition Laser Disk ?

Very nice. I hope to get mine up and running by the end of the year. Nice resource. I've been told I must have a Lasercon card to get mine going though.

Thanks guys, I got the Special Edition disk from a big collector over here in the UK. He had two and very kindly sold me one at a very reasonable price. I was very lucky, I think that they are difficult to get hold of but not impossible.
Don't know about the laser con card, the hitech runs most of the
Sony Ldp players and they are the cheap players to find right now. I think that the laser con runs the newer Pioneer players, however, I don't think they are as numerous as the Sony kit. Hence I went with the Hitech, I like the fact that I can then buy a fully functioning laser player to go with it for $50-$100.

I didn't have a hi-tech card either and I guess those are pretty hard to find. I've got your site marked as a favorite, so thanks for all the pics of the wiring and such. I do need to wire the CP yet.
I must have like 3 laserdisk players now.

I know a guy in the UK who has a few. If you need one let me know and Ill introduce you. I have bought a few things from him (including the Special Edition Disk) he his a great guy to deal with and very reliable.

Ive updated the site with info on the new Digi-Key power socket. I'm waiting on a few items from the states. Recon they are here as I just got the bill from the Royal Mail for the import duty, so hopefully will have them tomorrow or Friday.

Ill update when they get here.

Thanks

Sure that'd be great. I have no idea what the asking price is for one though, and shipping on anything would have to be a bear coming from the UK to the states.

I just emailed him to make sure he was Ok with the introduction.

I think the shipping should be OK. The card is small (the size of a Rom board) and in fact is mounted on top of the rom board on the main PCB (the holes line up). I'm going to do an install section after I have the outer cab work completed. My first delivery from Quaterarcade turned up this morning so Ill do an update on the site later.

I like your detail on the CP wiring harness. It'd be nice if there were also a Molex wire diagram. Last time I tried the Coin harness it was not accurate as to the diagram in the docs.
