Just like others, Dragon's Lair was the 1 game that made me literally stand and watch the attract mode forever. It was amazing (that and I couldn't afford .50 cents for 1 minute of death) First time walking into Showbiz '84? I saw the cartoon like gameplay (and Daphne!) and was forever hooked. I'm About 3 years into this arcade nostra cosa,(and after not seeing 1 DL for sale in all that time) I stumbled upon a converted prospect. My goal is to bring her back to all her former laserdiscy shiny, cartoony, gorgeous glory! I've restored other games, but only posted everything at once. This is my first restore log! Starting to acquire parts and checking prices and learning all about the forgotten medium that is Laserdisc (such a bad ass name) Here's where I started...

At least they kept the conversion in the family. Fully working World Series the season

Started with the CP. Had the WS 'thing' bolted to it. Thankfully only 5 small holes were drilled. The black paint came off really nice so I'm gonna stick with the original (after a little more cleaning) Used Citristrip, soft wire brush, denatured alcohol.

Looks pretty nice in the sunlight!

Know this won't be quick and easy, but I'm in for the long haul. Been doing research and I'm aware of Daphne and Dexter, but really want to keep it original as possible. (might go merlin?) Started a wanted thread too, but basically need the following:

Harness
PCB
Laserdisc Player V1000
Dragon's Lair Laserdisc
Scoreboard
Plexi for speakers and scoreboard
Power Supply, maybe..
Side Art
Marquee sticker
1 speaker grill
Manual with schematics.

Will update as I progress! Everytime I start one of these long ones, I get an all new respect for those that do this often. Ohh Baby this is gonna be awesome!!!

Update! Been slowly getting parts.. had a nice package come in this week! Had to do some work on the marquee before I could apply the new overlay. I used the wife's hairdryer set on hot and a razor blade to get off the old marquee. God it was hot! Tried to use a oven mit to hold the razor.. didn't work. So i just heated it up til I couldn't stand it and kept on trucking. Took about an hour, it left a bunch of residue, used goo gone and denatured alcohol to get the rest off. Polished it with novus 3,2,1. Good enough for me! Applying the overlay was fairly easy. Used some light spray of windex to make sure I could quickly fix any errors or big air bubbles. Turned out Awesome!

Got an original LD-V1000, pcb, scoreboard is on the way, grills, speakers,... still looking for Harness pieces! (already started sourcing connectors thinking I may have to do this one myself) and a DISC! or DISK! or Laserdisck? Anyways Looking for an original copy, might consider one of the repros.. Here's some pics of how It's come so far!

Has anyone used any leather/pleather/vinyl touch up kits on a Dragon's Lair? My cab is 98% solid and the vinyl all over is really good. Just a few scratches and a few holes.. be a shame to remove the original vinyl if it can be touched up. Just curious, I've found a few online.. anyone have any experience using a leather/vinyl touch up kit on a DL cab. Thanks!

Also, Still looking for a Dragon's Lair Disc!!!!!!! And harness (or pieces) side art and scoreboard plexi... Please let me know if you've got anything laying around!

Great work on bringing that back! That is criminal that someone painted it black! Great to see it come out ok.

That's a beautiful sight Nondrowsy!

For the record, an optical disc ends in 'c': "Laserdisc"

First off, I'm blown away at how far you've gotten! It's looking good so far!

Second, I'm surprised you were able to find an LD-V1000 considering how hard they are to find in working condition. Have you made sure it actually works? I'd hate for you to drop a few hundred bucks on the player and the laserdisc only to find that it doesn't work when everything gets hooked up. The player is easily the most fragile component in the entire cab.

Third, I'm in the same boat as you regarding the vinyl on my Space Ace cab. Mine is in good condition and I'd love to just be able to do some touch-up instead of peeling it off and replacing it. Let me know how hard it is to clean and replace the CP since that's what I want to do next for my cab. I'm afraid of breaking electronics or damaging what's already in fine condition.

Only Paid shipping for that ld-v1000, it was "working years ago, but no way to test" Good news is, it looks like it was from a school and wasn't ever in an arcade game. I guess I'll find out if it works if I can ever find a disc! I also have a source that has several still packed up from a company he bought years ago. again untested, but weren't ever in arcade games.

Disc.. working disc.. anyone!? :D

Did you just stick Marquee on plastic or did you use Rapid Tac?

Can't believe it's been 6 months. The Chicago Cubs season really slowed down my arcade work. Now that the Cubs are World Champs!!! Time to get back at it.

So the LD-V1000 isn't currently working.. shocker. So I was able to pick up a LD-V4200 for $20 on CL. At first it didn't work, but after looking up possible solutions, the gears that ejected the tray were gummed up. Some lube and gentle working up and down got the tray to work, once it did, It played the disc on the first try! Here's a video of the first test.

Apparently I can't edit the title anymore. But this was updated 11-29-2016

I recently got a full harness and my rca to bnc cable should be here tomorrow to test everything outside of the cabinet! I didn't find an original ps but over at thedragonslairproject, running a switcher should work fine. I'm also on the hunt for a CRT 19" TV that 'remembers' that it's on and comes back on after you unplug it and plug it back in, as the original monitor now has world series burn. Getting SO SO Close!!!....
