I am replacing the monitor in my dragons lair. (it is dead)

The original one is a G07 but it has a side card that converts the the signal from bnc input from the laser disk.

The monitor i have is a 19k4951

Question is the side card on the original has a plug with a red wire that looks to go to the monitor chasis Power wire ?

anybody have any ideas.

Thanks
chris

The red wire is powering the NTSC card tapping 15-16 volts DC from the monitor chassis. You can use the NTSC card with the WG 4951 monitor but it does not have the 16 volts needed to power it so you will have to add a 16 VDC power supply to make it work.
Best advice, rebuilt your G07 and keep it original and forget about the 4900.
You can find out more over on The Dragons Lair Project.

Doesn't Dragon's Lair just output your standard composite video signal, just with the BNC style connector?

Yes, the Laser Disc player outputs composite video which inputs to the NTSC convertor card and outputs RGB for the monitor. Some people just replace the monitor with a standard TV with a video input. Dragons Lair came with an Electrohome G07 monitor with the Electrohome NTSC card or the WG 4900 with a WG NTSC card. The Electrohome NTSC card will work with any standard Res monitor if you provide the 16 volts power for the card. The WG NTSC card will only work with the WG 4900 unless you make some modfications which are a PITA to do. I think it runs on 12 volts DC.

thanks for the help

It sounds like i should just rebuild my old monitor. I have done a basic cap kit before - this monitor is - No power/neck glow. I have done a basic cap kit. Time is more the problem with me. I may try the tv chasis trick.

thanks
guys

If you post up about your G07 instead of Dragons Lair, you would probably get some good replies. Seeing how it is dead, I would say obviously check your fuse and then your VR, but I'm not the expert some of these guys are, and someone will step you through quite nicely.

Just curious about it as I was just thinking that I had seen people replace it with a standard TV. Personally would prefer to keep it original, but it is always an option I guess.

You should/could rebuild it. Figure $40-$50 in parts plus shipping, but after you are done, it ought to be solid for years to come, and you get some experience rebuilding it.
