Okay, I've been wanting a Dragon's Lair since it first hit the arcades in 1983. I used to ride my bike several miles just to dump my only 50 cents into Dragon's Lair at the local arcade. I remember watching "Silver Spoons" and seeing the Dragon's Lair machine in the background and the damn Rick Schroeder kid would almost never play it!
1991, I'm technically an adult at this point, I pop into my old stomping grounds arcade after work. Holy Crap! Dragon's Lair 2! When in the hell did this come out! Again, I vow that I will someday own a Dragon's Lair game.
Fast forward to...
2011, I'm still technically an adult who has an 18 year old kid at this point. I start collecting old arcade games in January. My first game.....Cocktail Ms. Pacman. It was given to me from a TV show that wrapped. It didn't work and there was a horrible arcing sound when it turns on. After finding KLOV, I fix it. I"m hooked. I can't stop thinking about Dragon's Lair. Over the past few months, I've bought and restored my garage to the hilt with arcade games from my past. Robotron, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Junior, Space Invaders, Stargate, Asteroids Deluxe, Galaga, Centipede, Tempest, Joust...still no Dragon's Lair.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, a fellow KLOVer comes up with Dragon's Lair cabinet for me. It's stripped of parts but DL none-the-less!
1 week later, I'm talking with a friend of mine and I bring up the Dragon's Lair. I'm talking about how excited I am to be getting a cabinet to finally build my Dragon's Lair machine. I continue that I will, someday, have DL, DL2 and Space Ace in my garage arcade. He laughs and says, "I have Dragon's Lair 2 in my garage. You can have it."
WTF?!?!?!?
ARe you kidding me! He continues, "I've had it in my garage for years. I never play it. It's just collecting dust. It should go to a good home. Take it home."
I'm in disbelief!!! I love Dragon's Lair!
