Dragons Lair in the Ap Store NOW!

. Much better than the Blu-ray (disappointing) port for sure.

what do you mean better then the blue ray?? The blue ray versions are the best versions.... I played the iphone versions and they are HORRIBLE.. the video is good but the controls are WAY OFF and are way to touchy.. also the timing is of on them..... i owned both machines back in the 80s and i can say the blue ray versions even kill the original versions IMHO....[/QUOTE]

Not trying to start a war. The Blu-Ray version has no beep or it is faint or it skips and other issues like it tries to load some scenes twice (you see the first 3 secs). I just bought it brand new and on my Panasonic BD35 which is a pretty decent player that plays by other 30 Blu-Ray movies at least. It spins the Blu-Ray as often as it did the laserdisc years ago. I am not impressed at all. It is no better than the DVD version.

You would rather play this on a crappy little phone than original arcade hardware? Admin - ban this guy!

I still love original stuff, don't get me wrong. But honestly, wide the widescreen (although that is debateable as I believe it cuts the top/bottom of the animation as compared to original laserdisc), and the non-stuttering since it is not loading scenes from a disc, it is really pretty nice on the iPod Touch 3G after they fix some moves missing (even as compared to Blu-ray port).

Enjoy your originals if you have.

Sorry guys.... but IT'S A PHONE. Hard to get excited about anything that plays ON A PHONE.

And yes...the original was RIGHT then RIGHT again... as is Daphne...

Darn, I am pretty sure I have always used Down and then Right, and again, in this iPhone version, in Home mode, it actually accepts (with beeps) the move in this way. Ok, time to revisit a friend with an original machine....

Even on the DLP site walkthrough:
Vestibule / Yellow Room (crumbling ceiling)

CORRECT MOVE(S)
D R
R

All of this talk makes me realize that Dragons Lair was the precursor to Dance Dance Revolution. You guys should hookup the dance pads. :D

Believe it or not, someone already has ;-). (not me)

Haha... yep... Dragon's Lair meets DDR.

Hello Jeff and all, I seem to remember Down and then Right in the arcade or my Daphne Emulator (with certain ROMS) at one point. If you play the Home version of the iPhone port actually, it did accept Down and then Right (at the first occurrence though as I could have sworn it appeared a second time in the same game and that it needed Right Right that second time). It seems that the port is not perfect as I had hoped, here is part of my e-mail to the company I sent yesterday:

There are some things that are not true to the original (nor the Blu-Ray version) and I sure hope that you can improve with your next update:
1) Ropes scene - Dirk should be able to grab the first rope even before the ledge slips away from under his feet.
2) Underground River Ye Rapids - Dirk should be able to not only move up when he gets in the middle of the red river but also towards the middle with Right (or Left) moves.
3) From what I remember in the Yellow Room (Crumbling Ceiling), you should be able to go down and the right and not just right and then right as valid moves for this scene.
4) The first Elevator Floor scene that appears SHOULD NEVER be he reverse image where the scene opens with left side stair case and where Dirk is ready to jump to the right of screen. That is wrong, it was never a possible first Elevator Floor scene possibility back then in the arcade of the 80s.

I don't see any lagging on my iPod Touch 3G (it is so smooth that I don't see the point of playing any other port and perhaps not even the original arcade anymore).
The game seems to work great. Much better than the Blu-ray (disappointing) port for sure.
I am not crazy about the music they have added in the menu system but the UI for the menu itself is very nice.

Ahh.. yes.. you are right... that first move can either be RIGHT or DOWN. I thought you originally meant there was just a single move of RIGHT. My bad.

All of the moves from the original game can be found here:

All of the scoring can be found here:

And if you are interested in the original scene sequencing data, that can be found here:

As for your other comments about missing moves and stuff, yes, I noticed that too. But at this point we've been over the moves and scores so many times with the different versions that have been released... so I would say that anything missing or not exactly accurate is due to limitations of the device it's being played on... and not the programmers fault.

The original was just plain better than anything that has come since. Yes, on some scenes there were definitely more than one correct move. And the original was more random in its scene sequencing than the new versions I have tried.

No, not a limitation of the iPhone/iPod touch. They just got a few things wrong. They rushed out this title since EA has the bigger bucks is doing the marketing. There is no reason why the moves I described cannot be implemented. The programmers got my notes hopefully and they might patch things soon. The thing that bothers me the most is the sequencing where the Crumbling Ceiling actually appears twice throughout the game in the Home option and the 2nd time, you cannot do the D and then R move but have to do R twice. And also my point 4 where the wrong mirror image elevator level appears at the forth level.

Some people will say you're nitpicking on small details. Not me. Small details can make or break the Nostalgic experience when playing an updated classic. And in a LD game like DL, sequencing is huge.

My blu-ray player is a Panasonic BD35 with latest firmware. But, this evening, I used my PS3 instead. And things work much better. The beep is there, the screens load really fast. It doesn't make sense since my Panasonic plays my other 30 Blu-Ray movies fine. Sometimes I wonder why the PS3 is such an amazing blu-ray player and think that Sony has some secret trick they never told other manufacturers! Anyway, I do see a glitch or two throughout the few games I tried though and that it plays a little extra 1/2 second of some scenes beyond the end or you see the beginning scene of the generated skeletonl/dirk as if he had died on that screen and is now starting over but yet I didn't die. And the timing is a bit off in the last rope swing or the checkered knight moves. Otherwise the sequence seems perfect and all else including Hard setting works good.

Alas, playing in HD on my 42 TV again convinces me that the orginal arcade machine now becomes less of a need in my wish list....

Thanks.

I see no glitches at all on my ps3... Also blue ray runs at 120 hrz or more.. if your tv is slower then that, then you are NOT seeing full blue ray...Also if your HDMI cable is less then 120 hrz your not getting full blue ray either... so your TV is tring to keep up with your player mabey thats why you are seeing glitches.. same goes with sound.. If your not using HDMI cables for your surrond, then you are not getting full sound... rca and SD cables are ALOT slower then HDMI!! its all about sppeed now a days!!!

I got good cables and a Panasonic Plasma that should refresh fast enough. Something else going on with the PS3 playback and this particular blu-ray item....
I also have the Space Ace blu-ray btw and it seems to play well (I have not tried it in my Panasonic blu-ray player yet to see if it is as bad as the DLair was).

No big deal, I have it on the iPod Touch and it plays even better in my opinion (once they add a few moves back to the sequencing).

Enjoy guys.
