Dragons Lair in the Ap Store NOW!

** Yawn **

I wish they would devote some energy to emulating more of the LD games, instead of porting this to every device known to man...

They would if more than 5 people had played any other laser disc games.

Where's the AP store?

:D

I picked it up last night. It's awesome but I have one minor complaint. It's slightly laggy. I don't mean with the controls or anything, I mean there's a momentary delay for a scene to load. For example the death scenes or the final collapse to bones. I can see the initial frame of the animation and there's a split second before the clip plays.
I thought at first this was on purpose, to simulate the way the old laser disc lagged behind the action. But then I selected Home Version (as opposed to Arcade Version) thinking this would be the cleaned up instantaneous playback I see on something like Daphne. Nope, still laggy.
AND a question for owners of original hardware. In the room with the collapsing rocks (three doors to choose from, just choose Right to get out) this iPhone port requires you to select Right twice in order to escape unharmed. In Daphne you only choose Right once. Which is more accurate to the original game?

I want on the Iphone:

Cliffhanger (never will happen)
DL2
Super Don Quixote

It's RIGHT twice... on original hardware AND in Daphne. Daphne will be the same as the original hardware since it is using the original ROMs.

If memory from 1984 serves,You hit right twice. Once just as you're stunned and once just as you recover.

Hello Jeff and all, I seem to remember Down and then Right in the arcade or my Daphne Emulator (with certain ROMS) at one point. If you play the Home version of the iPhone port actually, it did accept Down and then Right (at the first occurrence though as I could have sworn it appeared a second time in the same game and that it needed Right Right that second time). It seems that the port is not perfect as I had hoped, here is part of my e-mail to the company I sent yesterday:

There are some things that are not true to the original (nor the Blu-Ray version) and I sure hope that you can improve with your next update:
1) Ropes scene - Dirk should be able to grab the first rope even before the ledge slips away from under his feet.
2) Underground River Ye Rapids - Dirk should be able to not only move up when he gets in the middle of the red river but also towards the middle with Right (or Left) moves.
3) From what I remember in the Yellow Room (Crumbling Ceiling), you should be able to go down and the right and not just right and then right as valid moves for this scene.
4) The first Elevator Floor scene that appears SHOULD NEVER be he reverse image where the scene opens with left side stair case and where Dirk is ready to jump to the right of screen. That is wrong, it was never a possible first Elevator Floor scene possibility back then in the arcade of the 80s.

I don't see any lagging on my iPod Touch 3G (it is so smooth that I don't see the point of playing any other port and perhaps not even the original arcade anymore).
The game seems to work great. Much better than the Blu-ray (disappointing) port for sure.
I am not crazy about the music they have added in the menu system but the UI for the menu itself is very nice.

what do you mean better then the blue ray?? The blue ray versions are the best versions.... I played the iphone versions and they are HORRIBLE.. the video is good but the controls are WAY OFF and are way to touchy.. also the timing is of on them..... i owned both machines back in the 80s and i can say the blue ray versions even kill the original versions IMHO....

Haha, ok, sorry, there's ONE other laser disc game that people have played... ONCE, and then moved on to the next game since that was a complete turd.

Actually, pretty much all LD games are turds; no real replay value and about 12 minutes of actual play once mastered.

And here's another: Mad Dog McCree was quite popular BITD.

Plus, Mach 3 and Astron Belt were in quite a few areas.

Sorry guys.... but IT'S A PHONE. Hard to get excited about anything that plays ON A PHONE.

And yes...the original was RIGHT then RIGHT again... as is Daphne...
