I picked up a project dragons lair II cab that has been converted throughout the years by the rye playland op. Under the police trainer cpo was swiss cheese and citrustrip ate my side art under the black paint. Not a good start.

Any chance I can get repo side, cp, and marquee artwork? Possibly even a metal cp repo?

Any advice would be helpful. Thanks all.

I don't know of any offhand, but your best bet would be to ask over at The Dragon's Lair Project forums:

http://www.dragons-lair-project.com/community/forums/board/forum_topics.asp?FID=1

I used to frequent there 15+ years ago when I was restoring my first machine, and it is the ultimate knowledge base for all things DL. If anyone can give you recommendations, it'll be one of the guys in that forum.

Thank's for the advice as there are not many options floating around out there. So far there is the MK-Restore ebay guy but I'm not sure what the quality will be.

The artwork came in. Seems like it has great color as far as the side art goes. However the marques isn't a repo of the original. I think.

Yea that's not the original marquee. Looking at pictures on The Dragon's Lair Project it looks like someone took the control panel overlay for the ALG conversion and stretched it and added the Dragon's Lair II on top of it.

I have collected all the parts and got them working but I need to rebuild the cabinet which look's just like your cabinet. I have some wood to replace as someone was too lazy to unbolt the monitor and took a saw and cut the monitor out of the cabinet. I will be following your progress. I got my side art off Ebay which is suppose to be NOS and I think I got the marquee from someone here but I don't remember as it's been a few years. Here's what mine looks like.

Wow. All NOS is the way to go as the difference in quality is quite noticeable. Even the convenience of the precut to size side art is fantastic. I'm not exactly sure how to approach the giant rectangle side art I have yet.

My approach to the internals is a bit different. I'm going arpicade initially to buy me the time to score pcbs/laserdisc equipment at a reasonable cost. My cab was an empty box.

Let me know if you want pics taken around my monitor to help with your rebuild. Bummer somebody cut the monitor out.

Does anybody recommend applying this full cabinet size side art direct to bare wood? Or should I paint first? If painting is the better option is there a certain type of black paint that works best?

No never apply any side art, decals, adhesive vinyl or paint direct to wood. One exception might be contact cement if applying vertical grade laminate. If you are going to paint, after bondoing any imperfections I would use an oil base sealer/primer like Kilz and sand it smooth and then paint gloss or satin black and sand with fine grit paper then apply the side art. Not sure how I plain to do mine yet. Did yours have the original black finish on the sides. I think mine has the original finish as I can see the adhesive outline of the side art on the sides but I haven't looked at it closely to see if it's paint or some type of vinyl.

Thanks for the feedback. After I posted my last question I did the research and learned exactly that.

Mine had the original stickers under the black paint and black finish on the sides. It was my hope to use citristrip like I used in restoring Mortal Kombat but unfortunately the citristrip ate right through the stickers.

Looking good. I am going to dig my cabinet out and take some pictures. Not sure if mine even has the speaker panel but I am pretty sure I have the speaker grill. In your picture it looks like I see the wood holes along the bottom where the monitor mounts but I don't see any on the top? I know yours had the monitor, cant wait to see how it mounts.
