So ... I have had my DL for a little over a year now and I play it about once a week. I love this machine!

I promised myself I wouldn't look at the cheats over at dragons-lair project.com.

Well ... time went by and I slowly re-learned the screens. Even my daughter helped me learn a few of them again ... memory has faded a bit since the game came out in my arcade back in '83. :)

So I am getting pretty good and I seem to be clearing all of the screens with some regularity ... except one ... the mudmen. Eventually, I got so frustrated because I felt like I had tried every different possible combination. I went to the cheat page and looked up the moves (I know ... lame, right?) and went back to the machine to conquer the mudmen and rescue the fair princess.

Well eff me if the moves on the cheat page don't work for me either ...

I can successfully press sword. Then, I patiently wait for Dirk to sheath his sword and I press UP. Instant Death! I have tried every variation and combination of timing and moves here and everything results in the exact same thing - Instant Death!

What the frack! What can I possibly be doing wrong?

So ... next step, I download Dragon's Lair app for the iPhone and I play the hell out of that in "cheat" mode. What do you know, I can get past the mudmen every time. Great, now I know the exact moves, so I head back to my upright and try the newly memorized moves on my machine. Again, Instant Death.

This is ridiculous. I am never going to see the Dragon!

I have the Special Edition laserdisk. Could that be the culrpit? I find it hard to believe that every other screen kept the same moves, but for some reason someone decided to play a practical joke with my laserdisk and make the mudmen screen unbeatable.

As you can probably tell from my incessant rambling, this is driving me insane. On the flip side, the machine is still challenging me daily. :)

Any tips? What could I be doing wrong?

I'm sure I'm not telling you anything you don't already know but it sounds like your pressing up too soon or too fast. My machine's been down for awhile but I'm almost sure that you go up just about a second after Dirk has sheathed his sword. Let is know when you beat it. It's a hell of a feeling.

OK ... so I have pressed UP after the initial button press of SWORD a million and one times. I have tried every possible timing combination there can be. You would think at least ONE of those times I would have gotten it right !!! Right ?!?!?

Any other hint here I am missing? Is it possible there is something worng with my machine ... or is it just me?

LOL

I wonder what difficulty settings your machine is on? Is it set at really hard?

Here's a link to the scene. Unfortunately you can't hear the joystick beeps but you should go up right around the 22 second mark. After dirk sheathes his sword, the scene angle changes. Immediately after the scene angle changes you should go up. Hope that helps.

not saying it's the issue you have but i have heard of a DL II that got to a certain point in the game and then would not recognize the correct movement. It was a board issue and I was told it was definitely not the player since the player who found the issue was the world record holder at the time.

Shavenyak,

There is no link!

Please repost with the link you are referencing.

Thanks a bunch!

Just noticed something else about my machine that is very strange ...

On the Yellow Brick Road screen, my game has no spider. WTF?

Everything else is exactly the same, but no spider on my machine. I can pass this level easily without the spider, but something is just strange about that.
