So I was finally able to pull out my Dragon's Lair and get my merlin/dexter hooked up. All of the cables to the LD were cut so I had to install new ends on it and roughed it all in. I was able to get the game to fire up 100% with my Merlin/Dexter but the damn thing is deafening and the two pots in the front seem to have no effect on the sound at all. They seem to be hooked up correctly. Is there something I'm missing? Is the sound now dictated by the dexter board or something? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
-Mike

Mike, If I'm reading you right, you're saying the audio is blasting out at full volume?

Merlin and Dexter take no control over the volume level. If your cables were all cut up, then you must have a wiring problem with the control pots.

In short, the potentiometer wiring should be like this...
The signal from the player RCA plug goes to the left (on the pot) and the shield to the right. Then the signal out is from the center going to the main board. The main board's common ground is also on the right.

There are two RCA plugs, so repeat this for the other potentiometer.
Of course left and right are arbitrary depending on how you look at it and which direction you want to turn the dial.

Yeah the RCA and coax ends were cut off and the laserdisc player was missing. The pots seem to be connected but are quite possibly roasted. I don't get static or any changes turning them. I have two 10k taper pots I'll put in tonight and I have a new BNC cable on order. Should be good as gold by the end of the week.

Thanks again

Ok I figured it out. It was super late last night when I got it all together and I wasn't paying too much attention to the pots. They were spinning 360. I tried messing with them again tonight and noticed this so I then realized the knobs on the pots were free. So I loosened them and pulled them off and then reinstalled them and they work fine. Now I can run my machine without hurting my eardrums. I need to do that sound mod mentioned though because there's a good buzz coming off the speakers. Also does anyone know where I can get a good color accurate control panel overlay? The one I got with this machine sucks pretty bad.

Now I'm waiting for a new BNC cable, a few other odds n' ends and my DL will be 100%.

Thanks again everyone!
