Well I finally got DL up and running; however during the Lizard King sequence it freezes and studders. Kind of a game ender. I tried polishing and cleaning the laserdisc and I don't see anything wrong with it, no scratches or abrasions that I can see. I'm not sure if I use Novus if maybe I could hit the bad spot, wherever that might be. I've looked over this disc pretty good.
Wish that run of reproduction DL laserdiscs wasn't quite so early before I started on one.

Not to crap on your parade... as I know how awesome it is to get a DL up and running... but you -might- have some disc rot.

Check with local collectors and see if anyone has a different disc you could borrow.

I've been reading up on laser discs... and the EU place they used for that run of repros is long gone... but there are still places in Asia that still make LD's. But people are saying that, between the costs and language barriers, there is little to no chance of getting them "pressed" there. But, that still leaves a SMALL sliver of a chance. IF they do make them, though... stock up. Even if they're $200 a piece, get a couple of spares. Because I can promise you that IF they get made there, that'll be the last of them ever produced.

There is a guy that has a computer set up running a program he wrote that interacts with the DL boards and serves as an LD player. It's not exactly Daphne (as it doesn't emulate the software, just the hardware), it acts exactly as the LD player would. The board sends the computer the commands and information and the computer queues up and plays the selected video file. It's a little faster than an LD player, but he's not giving the hardware away for cheap... and not giving the software away for anything. Basically you have to buy a complete computer from him (bare bones computer) and hook it up to you DL boards. So... there ARE options for when all the LD players and discs have gone the way of the betamax.

Long ramble, sorry about that. Just saying... if it is disc rot and you don't want to buy another disc... there are options.

Well I was doing some talking with the creator of the excellent Lasercon card and this might be an Eprom problem, because now I've lost my little 'bink' sounds on sword or move selection. Going to throw the disc into another LD player and just play it all the way through to see if it hits that spot and behaves the same. I may just have to reprogram the Eproms, crossed fingers.

That would be awesome if that was the case. You can play the LD in the machine and check it there. Just unplug the cable and short the connections needed on the back of the LD player. I don't remember the pin numbers off the top of my head, but it'll just send the "play" command to the player and it'll play from there. Checking it out in another player could be good, though, too... since it'll help rule out and issues with the player in your machine I guess.

Best of luck.

I tried the disc in the Sony Lasermax, and it does act a little flaky at that point. But instead of freezing, it kind of speeds up or otherwise acts like there is a smudge in that spot. I have to also consider, I've cleaned the optics on the LDV8000, but have not on the Sony Lasermax. I've used both Novus #2 and #1 on the disc to the point my fingers were ready to fall off. It'd be nice to know exactly which spot is having the problem to concentrate on that area. I'm just not seeing anything obvious.
I'll know more later tonight as I may try reprogramming the Eproms. I miss my bridge scene so I'm debating the DLE Roms, or just go with Rev C or Rev F2.
I've heard that DLE may 'slow' things down? But that'd be fine I guess if my Pioneer LDV-8000 is so much faster than original.
Right now it'd be nice to find one of those brand new reproduction DL discs and I'm a little on pins and needles wondering if I can get this worked out with more polishing/reburning Eproms.

Well the roms that were in this were rev. B. I pulled them and checked. Only the first matched any checksums. The rest all changed checksums at each pass in reading or were blank. Not sure how this thing was even running.
So...I took all 5 2764's and erased them. Attempted the first time to burn Rev C. All failed at only 2% written. I'm thinking all 5 Eproms may be bad, but I'm re-erasing. May try the AM2764 Device rather than just straight 2764 this time. I'm prepping an order with Arcadechips as I'm not optimistic at this point.
Thinking I have multiple issues. Bad Laserdisc and bad Eproms.

Hrm, well that's a first. All 5 2764's are bad. Can't write to any of them. Order submitted. Shame to lose Eproms like this.

I have some that I can't write too... it was just one specific manufacturer that wasn't working on my EMP-20. Either as generic or by the manu's part number. I think they were the AM2764's thinking about it... but it is almost 2AM, so I wouldn't trust my brain on that one.

Hope the disc turns out okay in the end and the EPROMs come through for you.

Got the 2764's in, ordered 5 and got almost double that. Great and thank you.
I'm pretty sure at this point now the problem is the laserdisc. As a matter of fact, I'm able to get past the Lizard King but the disc stops playing then. I'm pretty sure the disc has gone flaky.
Be nice to find one of those reproduction discs somewhere.

I aquired another DL cab and will just resto/mod it with the Daphne system. If you go to the DL Project website there are suggestions on different players that were made AFTER the original Sony that are more reliable and play smoother.
