Hey everybody. Hoping somebody can help with this hopefully minor issue with my DBZ PCB.

When there is supposed to be no sound at all (test menu, certain parts of demo), I hear static/interference noise, and it amplifies when the screen is changing to something else (as in from the Banpresto logo to the title screen). If I listen very closely to the in-game music, I think I can hear a faint underlying static. The volume of this noise corresponds to volume level set by the sound pot on the PCB.

Some sounds effects seem a fair amount louder than others, but I'm not sure if that is part of the problem or just how the game was programmed.

When I run my finger under the chips in the sound area on the solder side, the interference changes and amplifies.

Beyond that, there are no other problems and all music/sounds seem to be present and without corruption.

I've blown the pot with condensed air and given it several turns - no help.

Thanks in advance

Hate to double post, but I just noticed:

During its self-check at start-up, there is sound interference during the Work RAM check, and there is, as far as I can tell, actual silence during the other checks. I also noticed a small resistor with one cut lead near ROM 222A09. Could that cause the problem? There seem to be absolutely no other problems with the game besides the sound static.

sounds like that is most likely the prob, that cut lead is mostlikely causing a failed circuit and causing the sound to flake, might not be tho... IMO replace the broken resistor and go from there = WIN WIN.

Thanks for the reply, hopefully that is what is causing the issue (wish I'd noticed it sooner, lol). I'll have to pick up a replacement and hopefully replace it this weekend.

no prob, i don't own this board but i've looked into it a little. my guess tho is that it's that resistor playing havok with the board, it's a cheap and easy fix tho and definitely a good place to start.
