Dr. Who opinions? Looking to take a step up from the basic pins I currently have

Currently have 2 pins, Firepower and Flash (both single level-no ramps). I'll be keeping the Firepower but want to get something newer in relation to it. Just looking for opinions on Dr. Who. I've played it a couple times but honestly don't think I can judge replay value with a limited number of plays. Seems like it would be a fun pin to have. Anyone have/had this pin that can chime in?

I'm looking at 2 of them,

one is in awesome shape cosmetically, but the little playfield binds while rising and lowering. (asking $1300)

The other as far as I know works completely, don't know the condition of the playfield. (asking $1400)

I've looked on bostonpinball.biz and see that both prices are above the average, but not sure how reliable that is.

Do the prices seem reasonable?

thanks,

Tom

i like dr who OK....not sure i'd want to own one. personally, i think $1300 is overpriced....but that's just for me. i wouldn't be interested in it at that price.

but i've paid more for some of my pins than other people might as well. with price, it's all about what you can find, how long you're willing to wait, and whether or not you're planning to keep it for a while. hell, if you buy it at $1400 and keep it for years and years, who cares what resale is? you're gonna get you're money out of it.

if you like it and have the money, i say go for it. neither one of 'em are that far above the boston pinball average (and that's just a general guide).

I had one that was missing parts and completely dead when I got it. I completely rebuilt the game, stripped down to the wood with more than 150 hours into the rebuild. I had played it once before but only a few times. The game is OK, I love hitting the right ramp over and over but ultimately I wasn't super excited to play it day after day. No more than a week after getting it back up and running did I sell it.

Its a game where if you can be in it for less than $1200 go for it otherwise make sure you really like it first. Its not a hard game to sell but it is typically hard to sell past $1500.

Here is mine:

For reference I sold this one for $1750 but it had a TON of new parts.

I'm not in love with this machine by any means as it's really a "one trick pony."
Also not a big fan of targets on the left and right side of the pf "much like the last 10 Sterns heh". However IMHO in a large collection it would fare better with the simplistic game play that it offers.
I'd say ~ the $1200 mark if you're interested in buying one.

worked on one for a customer

it was fun with a deep rule set for good replayability

the miniplayfield had problems and was a PAIN to get to for repair
but in the end was fixed up

price seems ok for working game depending on condition
the one with the broken miniplayfield should be cheaper

good luck

That price seems in line with what I have seen locally.

Is your budget $1200-$1400? I have not played Dr. Who, but from the reviews I have read, I would think there would be better titles in that price range.

If it is a game you really like though, I would say go for it if the machines are in good condition.

Dr. Who with ANY problems should be $1000 or less, IMO.

I think it's a cool game...I'd pick one up at the right price. I love the music! The robot voice is annoying, though....the rising playfield thingie is sweet and fun to shoot.

I had one for awhile and sold it, not a huge fan of the layout really. I actually LOVED the screaming DALEKS, that was my fave part. I actually sort of miss mine, but doubt I'd buy one again, I sold mine pretty fast....

I miss all my pins though..wish I could have kept them all, I sold/traded alot. Pins are so hard to find it seems, that I may just keep them from now on, become a pin hoarder :)

I like Dr. Who and have it on my wishlist. Like it more than Pinbot. A good price all depends on where you live. I would try and figure out why the pf binds and is it an easy fix? Maybe the spot where the motor's cam engages the slide mechanism is all gunked up? I personally would rather go with the one in better cosmetic condition since I can fix mechanisms.

I personally love the hell out of this pin, and I know nothing about the tv show it's based on. I'm not sure why I love it so much where others don't. I guess I'm the weird one. ;)

Make that two of us,great game, especially for the price.

Thanks for all the comments. Still unsure about what I want to do which probably means I should either A: get them to lower the price or B: move on.

Thanks again,

Tom
