I'll preface this by saying that I'm a huge DD fan. Starting with it's incarnation Renegade to DD 2. Notice I didn't mention DD 3 -will pretend that never existed! Yeah the control scheme was different from the first one but I prefer this over the original! My only complaints on this are the levels are too much the same as the original and I was disappointed with the Wiley boss again..Your thoughts??? Aslo I'm shooting for the record on DD2 if I find a machine..wish me luck!

DD2 is very similar to DD IMO. I loved them both BITD but they are both kinda boring to me now. Every so often I'll pull out the board and play through the game just for the hell of it.

I have Double Dragon 1 and 2 PCBs somewhere. My biggest complaints with DD2 are the backward kicking, facing opposite direction control scheme sucked and that the game is WAY short. I never realized how short it was playing in the arcade cause I wouldn't invest much money in it, but man it is short.

I have a Double Dragon that I am semi-restoring. I keep putting it off because I don't wanna ruin my 1986-87 memory of the game. All I've known since then is the NES and PC-10 versions of the game. I have never played either of the sequels, but I remember pining for the game when I was away from the arcade for a week. When it cost money, it seemed cooler. Oh well, good thing DD cabinets are awesome jamma rigs.

I loved Double Dragon II. Had one in my collection years ago, wouldn't mind getting another one.

Yeah, it's very similar to the original, but some of the levels are different, in specific, the combine tractor that hits both your character, and the enemies. I also liked using the shovel as a weapon.

I didn't mind the "left attack", "right attack" control scheme, but I agree it's odd that they changed it from standard "punch and kick" buttons.

DD II has much better cabinet art than the original as well.

DD2 was cool. I liked the hurricane kick thingy that would whoop everyone's ass when applied. The cabinets were better structurally as welll than DD1. Those DD1 cabs were crap.

So I just got this game and have to say it's kind of pathetic and agree with the people above. The controls are weird. Assumed they did this just to make it more difficult. After going through the entire game I got it but still from time to time still screw up.

I just can't understand after how well the original did they only came out with Double Dragon version 1.2.

The thing I don't get most about DD2 is why they didn't fix the resolution (wider) and address the slowdown that still plagued both versions.

Its like they raised the spec to handle bigger sprites etc but not well enough to fix the slowdown issues. Technos programmers must just be sucky. They didn't even mix up the level layouts to get a little more creative.

I never saw a DD2 in the wild, but I've played it through on mame once and glad I didn't, I really don't like the control scheme. I loved the original but it was too easy, I always made it to the fourth mission on a single quarter, and beat it on a single quarter a few times when the random blocks didn't get me.

It's too bad they couldn't put together a quality sequel. :(

Oh dude, I wish you would have read this post I made from May '10 - I was SEVERELY disappointed. I'm a huge NES Double Dragon II fan, It's a million times better than DD2 arcade (DD 1.5 in my book). I hadn't done any research before I played it, just plugged it in and bam - "Hey wait, this is the same shit as the first game." lol

I do enjoy the original and still have the PCB around here somewhere. Anyways, no disrespect to anyone who really enjoys DD2, it's just I played the NES version for years before the arcade, and it's like a full-fledged sequel with real improvements over the original, cut scenes, a little story, awesome new levels. Arcade version was lazy.

DD is 100% better than DD2 in my opinion. The whole backwards thing screws me up! Why mess with something that wasn't broken! I have them both, but DD gets played 90% of the time.

I wonder if people got past the control scheme - what will be their thoughts? I see a lot of people saying the controls suck for this....

I may be one of the few but I do prefer part 2 over its predecessor. And this was coming from a person whom didn't begin w/ Double Dragon, but w/ Renegade.

The issue for me w/ DD1 is it was too easy. I was to blast through the game BITD w/ one life. Another issue was the elbow move. It was just way too easy to go through the game w/ just the elbow! And yes, I *hated* when people did this!

I said the main beef I had w/ DD2 in the previous post, but will also add the level comparisons. In DD2, levels 1,2,4 are "almost" perfect facsimiles of the first one w/ some minor differences - LAZINESS!

Edit: I also add the weapons were lame in the sequel sans the grenade.....

I see I already posted in the post. I picked the wrong day to stop sniffing glue...

Someone here with the knowhow should reprogram the punch, kick, and jump buttons to work like DD1. That will be cool!
