Double Damnit, its happened twice now. What would you do?

Hey all,
I just recently purchased a board off ebay. I have a Galaga cab that I converted to Galaga III. Later I replaced the marquee to Gaplus as I like it better than my Galaga III marquee. Some time later, I purchased a Gaplus board so I have a matching game. When I got it, it was Galaga III. Fast forward to this month. I win a Gaplus board on ebay. When I get the board, its another damned Galaga III. Yes folks, now I have 3 Galaga 3s. The description says that pics were taken via their flat panel test rig and shows a pic of gaplus title screen. Now I look at it and notice it has an IGN.com image watermark. So should I be super PO'd that this game is not the title advertised and that the seller used a pic from the net rather than the actual screenshot. Or should I be mad at myself that I didn't catch the watermark. Plus, I think it has something wrong with a sound rom. I got the board cheap enough, but shipping it back at my expense would be equivalent to me giving him the board back for free. I don't want to mention names yet, but I am annoyed and am wondering what I should do. SO, WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

did they

We'll did they CLAIM it was a screen shot from their actual board?!?
That would be a major factor.
didnt claim it then kinda hit n miss, although if they claimed it was a screen shot,
and the game isnt the one pictured kinda instant FAIL.

You should be mad at yourself and the seller.

If you got the board so cheaply that shipping it back costs the same as your purchase price you should just keep it in my opinion.

I would of just installed the Gaplus ROMs instead of buying more boards.

PM me and let's see if we can work out something to get your EPROMs.

Depends. Were they advertising it as a Gaplus board? If so, then contact them saying you bid on and bought a Gaplus board and recieved a Galaga III board, and that you would like the Gaplus board they had pictured in their ad (copy it now in case you haven't yet). See what they say.

If they can't provide you with a Galaga III, then tell them you want a refund and will send the board back when you get it. If they refuse, file a dispute...

I agree that you did not get what was advertised - I'd contact the seller for a partial refund for the cost of swapping the roms (at least the shipping cost to get the board to you paypal'd back). Might be a fair way to settle and if I were a seller that's what I would do - much better than a refund and an aggravated buyer. Get a set of gaplus roms and then you have a spare board in case your primary board fails.

"All pictures are taken on a new flat panel monitor on our JAMMA test rig, so not all games are compatible and will not always display properly. Please be aware while purchasing."

directly from the auction. i say that's false advertising.

Well, it may be a simple case of misidentification on their part. they say they "might not be able to retest before shipping", so they might have thought it was Gaplus and pulled a screenshot image off the net.

I guess to me it would all depend on whether a Galaga III board was worth $28.45 shipped. While it sucks that you didn't get what you wanted, can you resell it for what you paid for it? If so, then I'd probably let it slide (although I'd send an e-mail letting them know it was a Galaga III and not a Gaplus like they thought - they might be ethical and offer to refund all or part) and sell it again to get my money back....

Yup FAIL.

Id say this line hung themselves.

Also
Every board/part we sell was confirmed working prior to it being pulled and stored, in some cases (for whatever reason) we are not able to re-test them when they are listed.
ALWAYS consider this when you are bidding!
And no where does it say otherwise. So you would considder it to be a working board and NO issues AND MATCH the description and picture..

Kinda multi stage fail.
Their feedback would have made me trust as well..
Id say try contacting mabey they have someone listing for them or they are using a template which they really dont pay enough attention to details?..
1000+ feedback 100% pos??..
Try contacting em, and ask them whats up? Advertised as one you got another. what gives and they wanna make it right some how?

I actually just got a board from these guys too. It was sold tested working, but ended up having one of the sound chips broken off of it.....

Yeah, I agree with 2600, if it works, just have some Gaplus ROM's burned. If the board itself says Gaplus, then it was just one converted anyway. That is pretty shady though, saying the screenshots were taken from a new LCD screen, but they use someone elses screenshot (which is probably just a snapshot taken within MAME), not of the actual board itself running.

Thanks guys,
I will definitely have to email them. But I know I don't want to bother with shipping it back since its just not worth it. Just trying to figure out what to say and what to ask for. Although, I realize I am not completely without fault in not noticing the pic. It just annoys me when things go sideways on ebay and it seems they go sideways more and more for me lately. Oh well. Live and learn.

I emailed them about the missing chip....they mailed me back and said they didnt find it at the shop anywhere, and that was the end of it....I havent left feedback yet and really arent sure where I stand yet...

Hey AlkalineJay,
I just realized that we're practically neighbors. I'm only like 1.5 hours away. Do you ever make it to the auction in Kingsport. Maybe, I can meet you at the next one.

Your best bet is to try to find the items you need on here,as the majority of people in these forums are very friendly, honest, and not looking to fleece you.Ebay's got nothing on the sellers in here!

I know, but the thing to remember is almost everyone here is a collector also, so some of the rarer pieces hardly ever come up for sale. And if it does, its snached up by someone else within 20 minutes of getting posted.
