Anyone still playing DOOM? I love the first one, the second one is okay. I've been using the sourceport GZDoom and been trying out a bunch of different custom WADS. I'm working through part 1 of the Top 200 wads from 1994-2003 (https://www.moddb.com/games/doom/downloads/doomworld-1994-2003-top-100)

A couple really good ones I found are:
The Brotherhood of Ruin (https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/p-r/ruinbros)
run buddy (https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/Ports/p-r/runbuddy)

Doom has been the primary game I've been playing the last couple of months. PC Gamer had a ton of WADs on their demo discs for a long time

There is of course the Aliens Total Conversion, which there are multiple variants floating around. Some work some don't (loL)

A couple more of some simple but well designed WADs have been

Meat, which I do not have a link for as there was apparently a Doom 2 WAD named Meat that is much more infamous. This one is a Doom 1 WAD by a Carolyn Schulenburg and it is fairly well designed.

The Final Conflict
CSkg_57b has a funny midi remix of the Lemon Song by Led Zeppelin. Not sure if it works 100% though I got stuck LOL
There is also a wad for Doom 2 simply called Longwad that is pretty awesome.

I'd need to find the readmes for the actual names/file names (The Final Conflict for instance I thing is just FC.wad, longwad is just... longwad. No idea what CSKG_57b is actually called). Some of these are probably on the major wad sites, but these are from the early history of the internet so after 2000 everything got jumbled up post market crash. Physical form FTW (though the fucking ALiens TC doesn't work right from the PCGamer disc LOL)

Yes, my favorite is Brutal Doom. If you haven't seen it yet, Romero released SIGIL WAD last year which is also pretty good.

the last time i remember Doom + .wad files was the mid 90s, a buddy of mine had a re-skin with all Aliens/Geiger-esque textures and sound effects from Aliens. we laughed hysterically hearing Hudson's GAME OVER and THIS IS SOME REAL PRETTY SHIT samples over and over. those were simpler times. awesome to see people still playing these

Doom is hands down one of my favorite games of all time. I haven't played that many wads tho because Doom to me is sorta like Super Mario Bros. in that replaying the same main game over and over is weirdly relaxing to me, which is funny given the actual content of the game.

Also, Doom has some of the most satisfying weapon recoil out of any FPS ever. Firing the shotgun in Doom at point-blank range has so much more oomph than basically any gun in any modern shooter. It's depressing how wimpy shotguns can feel in other games.
