Doom 4 open beta this weekend

Can't even be bothered to install it...after watching the first video that popped up on Steam, I understand all the negative reviews. Looks and plays like Halo, only more like ASS.

eh ... it's hard to judge a game based upon a limited beta accurately. hopefully the SP game is good.

the MP is more like Quake 3 Arena than Doom. but it is a bit too floaty and they need to speed up the pace a bit.

I'm looking forward to the single player, but what I see of multiplayer...ZERO interest. I have little interest in multiplayer FPS anymore though, everything has gone Halo or Call of Duty, and I can't stand the gameplay of either. Worse yet is Call of Duty map sizes are microscopic.

This game doesn't look to have that arena feel to it, like fans of the series would expect.

Ouch! Some of those reviews are straight scathing! The fact that they are using proper grammar, spelling, and seem to be well thought out speaks volumes. I mean, it's not like a bunch of young kids saying "omg this game suxors my nutzors!".... These are some well written reviews that point fingers at the various, and rather obvious flaws.

And they want $60 for that shite?

you can't even see what's going on. more of this "teehee, graphics" bullshit to pander to stupid kids that have no concept of what games were like before Xbox 360. graphics don't make the game, the gameplay does. that's why new Unreal Tournament is going to smash this corporate sellout piece of garbage. that game's a "pre-alpha" and it plays exactly like I think UT should already.

worst move id ever made was going to Zenimax. the 2nd worst move they ever made was all the games they produced after Quake 2. I can conjure up a whole list of worst moves.

Ive been playing Doom/Quake multiplayer since the 90's and Doom 4 isnt Doom at all. Plays exactly like Unreal Tournament which is slow and choppy with floaty jumps and double jumps. No strafe jumps or rocket jumps either...two essential multiplayer features that were in D3. D4 multiplayer is for the low skilled and absent minded non-competitive gaming community. I wont be competing in QuakeCon this go around.

If you are into single player gaming then D4 might provide some entertainment. For multiplayer stick with Quake Live (competitive game for men).

F#ck You Bethesda with your Shitty UT Ripoff. No strafe jumps? F#ck You.

Thanks,

there's a whole lot of salt in this thread.

but that being said, i would agree that the beta was a disappointment. clearly they're trying to appeal to a newer crowd:

It looks like the Steam user reviews were driven largely by player expectations, then. Those expecting an old-school arena shooter may have felt misled. Conversely, those going in fresh may have felt pleasantly surprised.

It's a rosier picture on console. On PlayStation 4, the Doom open beta has a four out of five stars rating, from 8355 ratings. On Xbox One it's four-and-a-half out of five stars, from 2336 ratings. Perhaps the difference in user reviews on console compared with PC shouldn't come as a surprise. Old-school Doom was, for most people, a PC game, so PC gamers will have a different set of expectations than console gamers.

i'll likely pirate it for the SP game.

^^ Is that your name in game? I've only played Quake Live a few times, and it is pretty fun. Obviously, being somewhat new to that particular game, my skill level is pretty basic.

What's your Steam name? I'd like to get in game with you sometime, if that's okay.

Sure, I duel on Friday/Saturday nights (late) but we can do some FFA or capture the flag if you want. Ill see if I can get a couple of people to come join. If interested, we can help you out with your setup/gameplay.

Ill pm you my steam handle. Thanks to the subhuman gutter trash clans such as EWZ I cannot use that name on steam or in game.

]eQm[ JLA Superman was my D3 clan handle and was an unbeatable clan in Quake 3 Arena, Doom 3 and its members: Achilles, SlayerB, CountDracula, Killer of U and myself have won countless tournaments and we still play QL but use aliases. I miss those days hence my anger at D4.

My only hope is that Epic Games can sue and bankrupt Bethesda/Zenimax for intellectual theft even though UT is open source. Doom 4 is fundamentally and functionally identical to Unreal Tournament Pre-Alpha. The only difference is gory arenas. This is criminal and gross mental incompetence: stealing an open source game before its official release and then selling the stolen idea for $60.

PM received.

I've played a few FPS games.... Most notably Team Fortress Classic(my "go to" game, really), and I was in a clan for Fortress Forever called "AssEaters". The league didn't last very long(one season), but it was a real fun experience. I also clanned in TFC a few times, my most notable was with Reborn Killers(which was an off-shoot of another clan, the name of which escapes me).

It really boils down to learning the maps, weapons, movement skills, etc, but any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't have much game time on it, but it was pretty damned fun. And yeah, I got PwN3d pretty bad.:D
