Ok let me try to explain.

I have a crime fighters( atari gauntlet cab that was converted) that I would like to play Sly Spy in.

Unit powers up fine and attract mode plays, accepts coin input.

After coining up it asks "press 1 UP" (or 2 UP if I use multiple coin-up).

Problem is I only have 2 action buttons (kick and punch) that are fine for game play, but will not start the game.

What are my options.

Sorry let me ask "what are my technologically challenged options"

Thanks.

I think Gauntlet used the magic button as the start button. If you have Crime Fighters in there, then the cabinet must have been converted to JAMMA wiring. Crime fighters also doesn't seem to have a player 1 or 2 start button, so you'd need to do some wiring to get it to work.

You could wire up the player 1 start wire from the Jamma harness to one of your existing buttons, along with the wire that is already wired to it. I would think that would work OK, but the downside is every time you press that button, you are pressing the player 1 start button at the same time which shouldn't cause a problem.

You can find the JAMMA pinout here if you want to take a crack at it:
http://www.jammaboards.com/jcenter_jamma_pinout.html

Player 1 start is pin 17.

Why not just find the Player 1 and 2 start pins off the jamma harness and wire them to the Player 1 and 2 Button 1. That way your first button will act as a start button and will also operate normally during gameplay as button 1.

Thanks, I like that idea. If it has no issues with game play that would be the way to go.

You won't have no issues with gameplay, unless your playing something like Xmen vs. Streetfighter or Mark of the Wolves, where the start button also acts as a Taunt button.
