You make them and blkdog7 made that base the right way. None of that 2x4 bs.

When I had to do this for a Popeye restore last year I laminated 2 pieces of 1/2" plywood together to get the 1" thick pieces that the orginal had.
Then I cut them down to the same height.
I don't know If I'd use 1" stock (3/4" nominal)...it just seems to mark up and shred too easy. If you have to move it a few times you'll see marks all over it, IMO.

Darn you KOLVers and your tools and skills and handymanship! I have a hammer, some nails and a drill. Oh, I also have a screwdriver, a level, a crappy soldering iron, and some drywall knives. Wait till you see my next restoration! I'm drywalling a Paperboy and soldering my screwdriver to the side. It will be very level though.

I just made a new one for my DK. I didn't make the triangles, because I had to be sure I had something to attach to from the inside. Where the original base attached is covered up by internal stuff, so I had to extend some. I think blkdog7's larger-than-my-original wedges would do the trick. I just put 2x2s as braces on the inside instead. The outside part looks the same as the original (except for my bad painting, poor nail gunning, etc)

The original plywood cabs used 1x4 inch stock Jap hardwood. I use 1x4 inch stock SPF "quality" boards because they are cheap and easy to work with. They also look identical to the originals when painted. The only difference is the grain pattern and they are lighter in color. Worried about scuffing? Put nail on furniture glides on the bottom.

Is there any easy way to get the staples out of the bottom of the cabinet after you knock off the original base?
