Donkey Kong to MAME - Help me not make it crappy!

I'd make it Jamma , put a DK board with an adaptor and a 60 n 1 board in there so you can switch back , whenever you want the true DK game .

Does anyone make this type of adapter cause I have been contemplating the same thing but with the video inversion of a Sanyo monitor it seems to be more trouble than its worth...
(With using Nintendo PS,monitor and wiring harness)

I kinda did the same thing with my DK upright. I bought it as an empty cabinet which was advertised as a DK, but turned out it was actually a Popeye. Other than the coin door and a few scraps of wiring, the thing was gutted. I wired it up with JAMMA and a new monitor to play an original DK board using an adapter. From the outside you would never know it wasn't a fully original DK.

Oh I like this idea!!! Is that even possible!?

Ok, here is what I have so far.

Restoring the DK cabinet to look EXACTLY like a DK machine. No drilling into the control panel for extra buttons! Just gonna just jump for all the games and if the other games require more, oh well.

I am NOT using an LCD monitor. I have a 2001 19" that I will use. I figure since it will be a vertical set up, I can play the other classics like Pac-Man, Mr. Do! ect..
Buying - DK speaker
Buying - 60 in 1 board
Buying - JAMMA harness
Buying - Power supply
Buying - DK side art
Buying - DK control panel
Buying - DK Marquee
Buying - DK (Nintendo) Coin Door

I am also gonna post pics so you all can see the project. This thing is gonna turn out really nice!
Since this will be my first time around the block in building a cab, I have some nice guys here in Minnesota that can help.

Good luck man.
I'm picking up a qbert this friday for the same thing your doing.
its a bare naked cab. of course its gonna be a little different.

This thread may be a good read for you. Vs cab to Mame just like you want to do...

Thread title is wrong, too... He's talking about a multiboard, not a MAME cab...?

I like what he's doing. He's going about this the correct way.

Can you please use something that is not a classic game cab. This Crap is killing me!

hell its already a gutted converted vs cab, hes doing it a favor restoring the outside and running a modern harness power supply and pcb..

Im not a huge fan of multi or mame either but when you start with a neglected gutted shell anything you do is a damn improvement lol

Spyridon, that is perfect! Exactly what I am going for!!!!
I gotta read this thread. That looks EXACTLY like what I have and what I am going for. Looks just like a perfect DK game!

Just out of curiousity...can anyone chime in on the quality of the mikesarcade DK control panel? I know i'd definitely put a nintendo stick on it, but is the rest up to par?

I was looking for this thread to post here, but couldn't find it for some reason.

Honestly, I would think heavily about going the route this guy went with MAME. I know most guys freak, but you will end up with a better selection of games. Personally, I think the 60-in-1 boards are garbage. The interface sucks. Just a cheap Chinese piece of crap (I know, everything these days is cheap Chinese crap.....).

If you do it right, I think it would end up better then with a 60-in-1.

Just my $.02.
