Donkey Kong TKG4-13 2 board set - Does this have a VR1 and VR 2 pot on the pcb?

I'm working on my donkey kong. Bringing it back to life. Got all working but I'm not getting coin up sound, them song as donkey kong starts the ladder climb, no sound when using the hammer, no background sound, no sound while jumping over the girters on board two. I noticed that my pcb does have VR2 adjustment pot for sound. there is a 10k VR1 area next to VR2 but there is no pot there for adjustment. It doesn't look like one was ever there but there is a space for one. Can someone confirm if a 10k pot belongs in this position?

Thanks

ok.... where is this pot location?

Where is the pot to adjust the digital / analog mix? Is it VR2 on the 2 board assembly? I can't seem to locate it.

The VR2 for the sound is on the cpu board near top.
It is not the VR2 knob that is on the very top that sticks up vertically along side the VR1 knob, those are for picture adjustments. The one you need is below those and should be labeled as such.
This should help a little.

I think the problem grows

Well, I did the VR2 sound balance adjustment on the pcb but only get white noise the more I turn it up. I changed LM324 at position 7K and there is no difference. I'm missing all digital sounds. Anyone know where I should look next?

Re seat the 8035, and clean the legs also

Mine had this very problem

Have you checked here? Lot's of good info. You may consider switching out Chip 8K (DAC-08) to see if that makes a difference.

Still Sound Issues

Hi all,

Hope someone could chime in on this one. I replaced teh LM324 at 7K and also the DAC-08 at 8K. To no avail, the same symptom occurs. I get no digital sounds. Analog is there. I can hear faint digital sounds which sound corrput at times. I'm wondering if maybe the digital sound roms could be bad. Anyone know which position the digital sound roms are in? I could try to check this against a mame set. I get this white noise when turning up VR2 on the main boardstack and that's about it.

Thanks.

Yes, cleaned and re-seated 8035. Thanks again for the link on this, I have a few more things to check and a few capacitors. Hopefully I can get this board to come to life soon!

Back in the day when I was fixing boards I never once saw a board that had a
bad DAC. Also you can jumper over the LM324 before replacing it and get a
pretty good idea if that chip is bad or not, and you can piggy back on it.

I'd make sure the 8035 complex is running correctly by just spot checking
many of the signals to see if they are pulsing and yes, verify the two 3x
sound eproms.

Anyways, thats all just from the top of my head, been years since I looked
at the schems. good luck, hope it all works out. -Scott

FIXED!!!!!!!!!!!! DK Sound problem repaired

OK... I heard a lot of air noise for digital sounds. I did faintly hear the coin up sound. Also, faintly heard the music sounds being all garbled. I thought, let's check the 3H and 3F Sound roms on the cpu board. They check ok in an eeprom programmer... Still, I suspect a sound problem......... I take two 2716 eproms that I have laying around and re-program. Voila! Digital sounds are back! Game fully functions. Moral is, if you suspect the roms being corrupt, reprogram them. They may verify correctly with a programmer but they still can be defective!

Hope this helps someone.
