Donkey Kong sound working without speakers attached

I have a DK machine that first off is being weird. It has the typical Nintendo hum, but wow is it loud! Changed out the amp board, but that did not fix it... considering changing out the board with the POTS on it, but not in the mood for sodering tonight.

BUT here is the weird thing.

Speakers are unplugged... but you can hear the sounds of the game coming from within the monitor!

How does that work? Weirdest thing I have ever seen on a machine. Getting sound without a speaker.

I wish I was! That would explain it.

Seriously..the thing is working without a speaker hooked up.

It does sound like crap, and you can barely hear it, but noise is coming out the monitor area.

Not sure how that is possible, but its happening :(

What sucks is I sold the game today, and having problems fixing the sound now.

That happened on my Qbert once

It's the components vibrating.

I had a speaker connected incorrectly, so no sound came from it, but I could hear parts vibrate, but I knew for that to happen, the volume was way too loud and will blow the amp soon. So I stopped the exercise

I still dont get why its happening though.

Is the amplifier some how back feeding into the monitor or something?

Need to find a resolution.

Changed out the amp with another and still have the issue.

Switched out with another amp which appeared to be in better shape and got the normal hum and no more ghosts.

One of the caps was a little loose inside the cap, so likely that was the issue.
