Can anyone tell me if the original sideart looked "inkjet" printed on the greens, light blues, and browns? Thought I remembered hearing that the original was not silkscreened, and used a "dot" printing method.

I bought some repro sideart, and I'm having a hard time telling if it's bad quality, or if the original really looked like this.

The vendor will remain un-named until I identify if it's a problem.. Don't want to point any fingers. :)

If you have no clue if it's right or not, why does it bother you one way or another?

That's just how ink jet looks.

I just checked my DK sideart from Phoenix Arcade, and it essentially has the same "texture"

Anyone know what the original looked like? :)

Yes. The original was offset printed, which gave it a look of many small dots. This style of printing is useful/profitable when printing large quantities, which is why the repros are not done in this style. That art looks like inkjet, and probably looks incredible, so roll with it

Original was offset printed and laminated. Phoenix Arcade repros were done this way and is going to be the closest to original you will find.

Looks bad to me. Buy from PhoenixArcade or ArcadeShop. I'm not commenting on accuracy between those 2 (I don't know), but I'd buy from one of the big repro guys that has it silkscreened, not bzzzzzzt on an inkjet.

I have yet to get a piece of repro art from ArcadeShop that I was happy with.

I'd recommend anyone who wants accuracy avoid ArcadeShop.

Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you both!

Hmm. I'd have to disagree with that.

Don't get me wrong, ArcadeShop is great for parts and their repro Wico sticks and Atari cone buttons seem to be well built. Its their artwork that leaves a lot to be desired.

You're right, but I look at it this way - ArcadeShop gets a lot of stuff screenprinted and at a much higher quality than most people besides PA and ToG. However, detail isn't always bang on and for some reason he isn't involved here.
