I just bought a DK Cabinent. Very great condition. Needs some minor odds and ends fixed to be perfect. Anyways the side art needs to be replaced. The only thing is on each side are screws with no heads on them(smooth) that go into the side. they go through the side art to the cabinet. two of them don;t seem to do nothing, but the third screw seems to hold the monitor in place. are these something you put the sticker over or are they somethign you pull the screws out and then put the sticker on? if i sound clueless it's because i am. just starting to get into the arcade collecting and fixing hobby.

pull the bolts out and apply the art, will look like crap otherwise, do one side at a time! that way you can leave the monitor in situ

If it has 5 bolts in it, the upper left 2 are for holding your vertical monitor. the other 3 are for horizontal monitor mounting (Which you wont be using) Center the new art 2 3/4 inches from the top of the cabinet, the new bolts should poke through the newly applied art. Dont apply the art over the bolts.

The above is all correct with one exception.
The Donkey Kong lettering should be centered with the lower marquee bracket as per the pic on the original flyer.
That would put it lower than 2 3/4".
Here are some pics.

Mine:

The Flyer:It is hard to see but it is clearly lower that 2 3/4"

I got in 2 DK's and the original side art was applied right around 2 3/4... What is the official placement then?? I'd like to know the definitive height from the top these are to be placed..

Just like the under-bezel instruction sticker, I don't think there was any exact science at the factory. You're likely to see all types of variations out there on the exact placement.

Indeed. And although Jim's example uses solid logic, I've never seen one placed that low. He has argued this in other threads but I have to agree on the approx. 2.75" figure. Which puts the lettering in the sideart sticker more in-line with the lettering on the marquee. I have seen many a Kong, and they all look as such, but as has been said time and time again : when restoring or modifying your machines, it's what YOU think looks good or correct that matters.

However, if your Kong has a trackball, happs, and a mame cpo on it, your restoration advice is hereby rendered invalid! :p

I have seen pictures of machines with original side art that needed to be replaced and they were right where I have mine.
I also played one back in '81 or '82 that had the art that low.
I have both an original and that cp which is for playing the 60 in 1 which is among the 6 boards in my DK cab.
That joystick by the way is a Sanwa 8 way not a Happs.
The Sanwa is the closest you can get to original.
I also have some NOS side art. and all the internals to make it all original and the earlier version too.
I only have room for a few games and the DK was already Jammatized so I made use of it.
Just because mine isn't all original doesn't mean I don't know what should be original and where it should be placed.
I did a lot of research to obtain the original stuff that I have for mine.

Of all 4 of the DKs I bought, the 3 with remaining side art were placed at about 2 3/4" from the top. My Red DK didnt have side art on it.

The early DK's probably were the only ones with the lower art like the flyer.
The one I played, way back in '81,was pretty new and had the ladder cheat.
It was most likely the earlier TKG2 version.
I wish I could remember if the marquee, bezel and cpo had copyrights or not.
I prefer it lower,to match my no copyright marquee and bezel.
I think you should put it where it looks good to you.

Where is the copy right on the bezel, I dont see it on any of mine?

The copyright,if it has one, will be on the lower right corner right above Mario with the hammer.
If there is no copyright there then you have one of the earlier bezels.
The first ones, used on the Radarscope conversions, were 2 piece bezels.
There was a tinted piece mounted behind the piece with the graphics.
The ones after were silk screened directly on tinted plexi.

Ah yah, 3 of my Marquees dont have a copyright, and neither of my bezels do.
