I finished this a long time ago, but I don't think I ever posted more than a before and after picture.

First pic is when I brought it home. Non-working, $70, complete except for the back door.

Next, sand, bondo, sand bondo, sand, bondo, etc...

Painting the black parts.

Dog inspecting my work.

Test fit of repainted CP, with cleaned original overlay and new instruction sticker.

Nice work. For a minute there I thought that Jeep was painted DK blue.

Hahah...after posting the pictures, I actually took a DK paint sample out to the garage to make sure it wasn't the same color! :D Not my choice of colors, it was painted that way when I bought it.

looks good. just curious, how did you paint the dk blue...roller or spray gun?
I used a roller, but if I was to do it again, I'd use a HVLP spray gun. There are some roller marks that can be seen if it's in the correct light, but otherwise it looks pretty good.

That is a sweet looking DK.

Now on another note, when is the CJ gonna get a little love. You are a man of my own heart. I would love to see some more pics of the Jeep. Is that a 2A or a 3A? I have a 1967 CJ-5 myself, but would love to pic up a flatfender some day.....

The Jeep in the pictures is a '47 CJ2a. I've had it sitting in the garage waiting patiently to get worked on for a few years. It's in pretty bad shape. It needs lots of body work, amongst other things. Unfortunately, it's too far gone for a full restore (the engine was replaced with a Toyota 18r many years before I got it). I have a 60's era Cj5 frame to put the body on, so it's going to be a hybrid build that looks mostly original, but has more modern parts.

Most of my Jeep time/budget goes to my '84 CJ7 wich I've been taking down to Moab to crawl on the rocks. It's a mild budget build, but it does OK on the rocks.

I guess since this is my own thread, I can derail it with a couple Jeep pics :)

First is my CJ7 crossing the "Golden Crack" in Moab, and second is me almost rolling backwards down "Hells Gate" also in Moab.

Really nice job on this restoration!

Thanks! After all of that work, it hardly gets any play since I suck at DK. I really like the looks of the cabinet and as a true classic, I can't bring myself to sell it even though I rarely play it. I have some friends that enjoy it, so that makes it worth keeping.

That's a beautiful DK - very clean! So what was the problem with it - you said it was non-working when you bought it. Nice Jeeps too. ;) I've got a 97 TJ that I put more money than I care to admit into. Haven't been to Moab yet, one of these days...

Nice work. DK was my first restore and it was a pleasure making it minty again. Thanks for the pics. I'm inspired to keep working on my other cabs. Haha.

It was a monitor problem. The HOT was bad and it needed a cap kit. Everything else worked fine.
Jeeps can be quite a money pit. You have got to go to Moab at some point before they close all the good trails down. It is the 'holy grail" of jeeping in my opinion. I'm glad I got the oportunity to go up the Lions back before they closed it down.
